The Jiaozhou bay (People's Republic of China, Shandong province, Qingdao county) is a 400 km2 semi-closed bay around which socio-economic activities have developed. More than 6.7 million of inhabitants live and work around this bay. ln 1995 the shrimp production (Penaeus orientalis) raised to 300-400 Metric Ton, more than 77,000 MT of clams (Ruditapes philippinarum) more than 12,000 MT (Metric Ton) of oysters (Ostrea plicatula), more than 14,000 MT of mussels (Mytilus edulis) and more than 25,000 MT of scallops (Chlamys farreri and Argopecten irradians) have been harvested.
