Connectivity patterns of coastal fishes following different dispersal scenarios across a transboundary marine protected area (Bonifacio strait, NW Mediterranean) ArchiMer
Koeck, Barbara; Gerigny, Olivia; Durieux, Eric Dominique Henri; Coudray, Sylvain; Garsi, Laure-helene; Bisgambiglia, Paul-antoine; Galgani, Francois; Agostini, Sylvia.
The Strait of Bonifacio constitutes one of the rare transboundary Marine Protected Areas (MPA) of the Mediterranean Sea (between Sardinia, Italy and Corsica, France). Based on the hypothesis that no-take zones will produce more fish larvae, compared to adjacent fished areas, we modeled the outcome of larvae released by coastal fishes inside the no-take zones of the MPA in order to: (i) characterize the dispersal patterns across the Strait of Bonifacio; (ii) identify the main potential settlement areas; (iii) quantify the connectivity and the larval supply from the MPAs to the surrounding areas. A high resolution hydrodynamic model (MARS 3D, Corse 400m) combined to an individual based model (Ichthyop software) was used to model the larval dispersal of fish...

Dufresne, Christiane; Malet, Nathalie; Coudray, Sylvain; Fiandrino, Annie.

This study aims to assess the hydrological fluxes between the ‘Grand Etang’ of Miquelon and the oceanic part. Bathymetric surveys and Doppler current meter data acquisitions were carried out from August 14th, to November 5th, 2014 and from April 1st, to end of July 2015 to allow the following estimates : Total area (227 Ha) and characteristics volumes (total : 6,7 106 m3; oscillating 2,8 106 m3 (40 %); half-tide 5,2 106 m3) Velocity Index of channel to evaluate the average current speed at cross-section channel Fluxes, on flood and ebb tide respectively : Instantaneous flow: maxima at 94,2 et 65 m3/s mean 37.2 et 24.5 m3/s. in 2014 and maxima 85,03 et 73,62 m3/s mean 26,22 et 28,20 m3/s in 2015. Circulating fluxes by tide : maxima 1,06 and 1,09 106 m3,...

Rapport 2018 Ifremer.

An operational model to simulate post-accidental radionuclide transfers in Toulon marine area: preliminary development ArchiMer
Duffa, Celine; Dufois, Francois; Coudray, Sylvain.
As part of its development of post-accident management tools, the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety is setting up a model to simulate radionuclide dispersion in the Toulon marine area (one of France's main military ports). The model is based on the MARS 3D code developed by IFREMER. It reproduces hydro-sedimentation phenomena in the Bay of Toulon with a horizontal spatial resolution of 100 m and 30 vertical sigma levels and also factors in radioactive decay and dissolved/particulate distribution of the radionuclides studied. With no tide, the major currents in this area are generated by the wind. The model effectively reproduces the resulting hydrodynamic phenomena, which were measured throughout the summer of 2009 in the...

Small-scale variability of the current in the Strait of Bonifacio ArchiMer
Gerigny, Olivia; Coudray, Sylvain; Lapucci, Chiara; Tomasino, Corinne; Bisgambiglia, Paul-antoine; Galgani, Francois.
Current dynamics in the Strait of Bonifacio (south Corsica) were investigated at a small scale during the STELLAMARE1 multidisciplinary cruise in summer 2012, using in situ measurements and modeling data. The Strait of Bonifacio is a particularly sensitive marine area in which specific conservation measures have been taken to preserve the natural environment and wild species. Good knowledge of the hydrodynamics in this area is essential to optimize the Marine Protected Area's management rules. Therefore, we used a high-resolution model (400 m) based on the MARS3D code to investigate the main flux exchanges and to formulate certain hypotheses about the formation of possible eddy structures. The aim of the present paper is first to synthetize the results...

Satellite and In Situ Monitoring of Chl-a, Turbidity, and Total Suspended Matter in Coastal Waters: Experience of the Year 2017 along the French Coasts ArchiMer
Gohin, Francis; Bryère, Philippe; Lefebvre, Alain; Sauriau, Pierre-guy; Savoye, Nicolas; Vantrepotte, Vincent; Bozec, Yann; Cariou, Thibault; Conan, Pascal; Coudray, Sylvain; Courtay, Gaelle; Françoise, Sylvaine; Goffart, Anne; Hernández Fariñas, Tania; Lemoine, Maud; Piraud, Aude; Raimbault, Patrick; Rétho, Michael.
The consistency of satellite and in situ time series of Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), Turbidity and Total Suspended Matters (TSM) was investigated at 17 coastal stations throughout the year 2017. These stations covered different water types, from relatively clear waters in the Mediterranean Sea to moderately turbid regions in the Bay of Biscay and the southern bight of the North-Sea. Satellite retrievals were derived from MODIS/AQUA, VIIRS/NPP and OLCI-A/Sentinel-3 spectral reflectance. In situ data were obtained from the coastal phytoplankton networks SOMLIT (CNRS), REPHY (Ifremer) and associated networks. Satellite and in situ retrievals of the year 2017 were compared to the historical seasonal cycles and percentiles, 10 and 90, observed in situ. Regarding the...
