| Soil samples from a nature reserve for indigenous animals in Uruguay yielded one new and two known <i>Xiphodorus</i> species and one new <i>Paraxiphidorus</i> species. The new <i>Xiphidorus</i> is described as <i>X. uruguayensis</i> n. sp. It can be distinguished from other <i>Xiphidorus</i> species by its large body size, cylindrical anterior end offset from the remainder of the body by a sudden expansion of the latter and by its barrel- to heart-shaped amphid with small slit-like aperture.
