Seasonal and longer term trends in sea temperature along the French North Sea coast, 1975 to 2002 ArchiMer
Woehrlings, D; Lefebvre, Alain; Lehoerff, Genevieve; Delesmont, R.
Regular sea temperature measurements have been made since 1975 at Gravelines (French coast of the Southern Bight of the North Sea) within the framework of a research programme aimed at monitoring the influence of the thermal discharge of a nuclear power plant. The sampling has yielded a 28-year time-series. Pluriannual natural fluctuations of temperature show cyclic patterns and long-term trends in good accordance with global climatic changes as revealed by the NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) annual index.

Surveillance Écologique et Halieutique. Site de Gravelines. Novembre 2006 - Octobre 2007 ArchiMer
Lefebvre, Alain; Antajan, Elvire; Delesmont, R; Dewarumez, J. M.; Luczak, C.
This is the 30th annual surveillance report concerning the central nuclear power plant of Gravelines. This very high power level results from six plant units located on the shore and is characterised by a cooling system with a coastal surface input and output. The production of electricity began in 1980 and reached maximum in 1986. Surveillance studies concern monitoring of fish populations (larvae and eggs of Sole and Sprat) or crustaceans (shrimps), benthic system (intertidal and subtidal) and pelagic system (hydrology, microbiology, phytoplancton, zooplancton). This survey deals with spatial and temporal approaches (i) study of the direct impact by comparison of the input and output seawater stations, (ii) study of medium and long term evolution of the...

Grossel, Hubert; Delesmont, R.
Phaeocystis , a nanoplanktonic algae, appears in the eastern Channel and in the south of the North Sea, at the end of the microplanktonic spring outburst, with often considerable density. At that time, acrylic acid is excreted in the water. On account of its well known antibiotic activity, one could wonder if a bloom of Phaeocystis might be responsible for an antibacterial effect of the sea water. Acrylic acid has been detected in spring 1981 during the Phaeocystis bloom. Its concentration was greatly inferior to the 50% inhibitory concentration measured in vitro against natural bacterial population. Furthermore, results about primary and heterotrophic productions show a sharp synchronism in the peak of intensity. This means, at least, there is no...
