Mededeling van het Meijendel-comité, Nieuwe Serie, no. 22 Bij het doornemen van de publicaties, die zijn verschenen in de serie „Mededelingen van het Meijendel-comité", bleek dat er tot nu toe nooit een poging werd ondernomen om de zweefvliegen-fauna van dit gebied te inventariseren. Ook waren er in de collectie van het Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie slechts weinig exemplaren uit Meijendel aanwezig, een bewijs dat in het verleden weinig aandacht aan de Diptera van dit gebied besteed werd. Om een indruk te krijgen van de soortenrijkdom van deze begroeide binnenduinen werd gedurende twee jaren (1969, 1970) regelmatig in Meijendel verzameld. Merodon batumicus, a syrphid fly new to the Dutch fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae) A female specimen of Merodon batumicus Paramonov, 1927 was collected in 1972 in the forested park around Huys te Warmont, to the north of Leiden (province of Zuid- Holland). The region is known for its bulb cultivating companies and fields. This is the first record for the Netherlands. Most likely the specimen was introduced with bulb material from Turkey. The species has been collected rarely within its range which comprises the Caucasus and Turkey. An investigation of the hoverfly fauna of the Dutch Frisian islands was carried out between 1967 and 1983. A total number of 110 species has been found. For each species the earlier records from the literature are listed and new localities given together with the total number of specimens collected. A comparison is made with earlier investigations of the hoverfly fauna in dune areas in the Netherlands and with comparable surveys in Denmark and northern Germany (SchleswigHolstein).
