| Weight–Body Length relationships (WLR) of 45 fish species (37 Actinopterygii and eight Elasmobranchii) were investigated. A total of 31,167 individuals were caught and their biological parameters measured during the four quarters from 2013 to 2015, on five scientific surveys sampling the North-eastern Atlantic Ocean from the North Sea to the Bay of Biscay (ICES Divisions IVb, IVc, VIId, VIIe, VIIg, VIIh, VIIj, VIIIa and VIIIb). Among 45 tested species, all showed a significant correlation between total length (L) and total weight (W). The influence of sex on WLR was estimated for 39 species and presented a significant sexual dimorphism for 18 species. Condition factor (K) of females was always higher than for males. | This work is the result of collaboration between the English, French, Channel Isles and Belgian laboratories which are involved in a study of the English Channel. Its subject is the activities of fleets and fleet interactions, and it complements other work on the biogeographical identification of Channel fish and shellfish stocks (published), and on modelling the fleets' interactions as they exploit the resources (in preparation). The concept of a métier is defined as being the use of one fishing gear to catch one or several species targeted during a particular season in a given area. | The results of a survey on fishers' perceptions of recent changes in the eastern English Channel ecosystem carried out in 2006 were compared with fishery and bottom-trawl survey data. A hypothesis-testing framework was used, testing the null hypothesis that fishers' statements were true, which permitted evaluation of both agreement and disagreement. Overall good agreement between fishers' statements and scientific data was found, and both sources suggested that the fish community in the Channel is undergoing large changes, among which are decreases in some commercially important species; in addition, a number of human pressures impact the ecosystem. | Les études de complément d'Avant-Projet de 1978-1979 et les études de Projet de 1979 a 1981 sur le site de Plogoff (1), ont montre que la baie d'Audierne se caractérise par une structure hydrologique complexe et par une répartition particulière des organismes zooplanctoniques. | En 1983, plus de 20 millions de voyageurs et près de 20 millions de tonnes de marchandises ont traversé la Manche ou la Mer du Nord entre la Grande-Bretagne et le continent. Ces échanges sont trois fois supérieurs à ceux enregistrés en 1970, ce qui représente une augmentation annuelle de l'ordre de 10 %. Les prévisions les plus réalistes tablent actuellement sur une augmentation moyenne légèrement supérieure à 4 % par an d'ici l'an 2000, ce qui équivaut à plus que doubler à cette date le trafic actuel. Pour répondre à une telle demande, il a été nécessaire d'envisager différentes solutions permettant de faire face à l'augmentation prévue. |
