POMME - Campagne Pomme T0 - Rapport de données CTD-O2 ArchiMer
Desaubies, Yves; Billant, Andre; Branellec, Pierre.

A four-dimensional analysis of the thermal structure in the Gulf of Lion ArchiMer
Gaillard, Fabienne; Desaubies, Yves; Send, Uwe; Schott, Fritz.
The Theoretical and Experimental Tomography in the Sea Experiment (THETIS 1) took place in the Gulf of Lion to observe the evolution of the temperature field and the process of deep convection during the 1991-1992 winter. The temperature measurements consist, of moored sensors, conductivity-temperature-depth and expendable bathythermograph surveys, ana acoustic tomography. Because of this diverse data set and since the field evolves rather fast, the analysis uses a unified framework, based on estimation theory and implementing a Kalman filter. The resolution and the errors associated with the model are systematically estimated. Temperature is a good tracer of water masses. The time-evolving three-dimensional view of the field resulting from the analysis...

Lost CTD recovered by French sub ArchiMer
Desaubies, Yves.
On March 11, 1986, the R/V Noroit, a research vessel belonging to IFREMER (Institut Francais de Recherche, pour l'Exploitation de la Mer, Paris), was on station in the northeast Atlantic Ocean (46°54′N, 11°14′W). The crew were performing a deep conductivity‐temperature‐depth (CTD) cast (water depth 4750 m) as part of a survey of abyssal circulation in that region. The towed CTD instrument unit was 120 m from the bottom when the cable ruptured, resulting in the loss of the instrument and 4788 m of cable. The cause of the cable failure was quickly diagnosed as corrosion on a rarely used part of the cable.

Argo: The Global Array of Profiling Floats ArchiMer
Roemmich, Dean; Boebel, Olaf; Desaubies, Yves; Freeland, Howard; Kim, Kuh; King, Brian; Le Traon, Pierre-yves; Molinari, Robert; Owens, Brechner W.; Riser, Stephen; Send, Uwe; Takeuchi, Kensuke; Wijffels, Susan.
The Argo network of autonomous profiling floats will provide the first global views of the time-varying temperature (T) and salinity (S) fields of the upper ocean. Argo will serve a broad community of scientific and operational users, with objectives falling into several categories. It will provide a quantitative description of the evolving physical state of the upper ocean and the patterns of ocean climate variability, including heat and freshwater storage and transport. The data will enhance the value of the Jason altimeter through measurement of the subsurface vertical structure of T and S, plus reference velocity, with sufficient coverage and resolution for interpreting altimetric sea surface height variability. Argo data will be used for initializing...
