Environmental fate of chlordecone in coastal habitats: recent studies conducted in Guadeloupe and Martinique (Lesser Antilles) ArchiMer
Dromard, Charlotte R.; Devault, Damien; Bouchon-navaro, Yolande; Allénou, Jean-pierre; Budzinski, Hélène; Cordonnier, Sébastien; Tapie, Nathalie; Reynal, Lionel; Lemoine, Soazig; Thomé, Jean-pierre; Thouard, Emmanuel; Monti, Dominique; Bouchon, Claude.
The organochlorine pollution by chlordecone, an insecticide spread in the past in banana plantations, is now recognized as a major ecological, economic, and social crisis in Guadeloupe and Martinique Islands. Due to its physical and chemical properties, this molecule is particularly persistent in the natural environment. Volcanic soil of Guadeloupe and Martinique contain allophanes (amorphous clays), which favor chlordecone trapping due to their structure and physical properties. Thus, with this trapping ability, allophanes serve as a vector allowing chlordecone to contaminate runoff waters and, finally, the sea. In the present publication, several studies recently conducted in the Lesser Antilles have been compiled in order to evaluate the desorption of...

Valorisation des données de la surveillance DCE - Synthèse des données des suivis chimiques «Biote » (2008-2010), « Sédiment » (2008) et « Eau » (2009) - Masses d’eau côtières et de transition du district Adour-Garonne ArchiMer
Devault, Damien; Auby, Isabelle; Trut, Gilles; Duval, Magali; D'Amico, Florence; Kantin, Roger.
This report presents recent data on chemical contaminants in coastal and transition water bodies of Adour-Garonne district, acquired as part of the WFD (water measurements in 2009) and network ROCCH (measures in sediments in 1999 and 2008 and in shellfish each year between 2008 and 2010). It should be noted that only environmental quality standards exist for water, and in the absence of sediment and biota EQS, it is not possible to use these data to determine the chemical quality of water bodies. However, when other types of reference values are available (produced by OSPAR for example), they are used to argue the status of water bodies in support of the data obtained on the water under the control WFD monitoring.

Etude des causes potentielles des mortalités dans les élevages de crevettes pénéides nord médocains en 2001 ArchiMer
Auby, Isabelle; Devault, Damien; Trut, Gilles; Cantin, Christian; Maurer, Daniele.
For fifteen years, northern Medoc hosts sites of Penaeus japonicus. The six farms, with a total area of 180 ha (95 ha water) are supplied with water by canals connected to the Gironde estuary. Their normal total production is 11 tons per year, for an annual national output of 25 tonnes. In 2001, the survival rate of postlarvae were particularly low (22% average) compared to previous years, causing a decrease in production on all farms. A total of 4 tons of penaeid were harvested by farmers, about one third of normal production. To explain this sudden drop in production, farmers have questioned the possibility of pollution of the water feeding their marshes, suspecting especially the recent use of certain insecticides related to forestry and viticulture. A...
