Records and descriptions of Microlepidoptera (8) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
In continuation of my first revisional paper on the subfamily Olethreutinae dealing with the Lobesia complex (1954) I now present a revision of the genus Bactra Stephens. Chiefly the species from the Malayan region are treated, but also references to some species from other regions are made, as far as these species were available for study. I use this opportunity also to make some amendments to my paper on Meyrick types in the British Museum (1950). Material from New Guinea and of the Sumba Expedition 1948 will be treated in other papers. The material that served for this revision comprises chiefly the collection of the Leiden Museum (indicated below with "L.M."). A small, but valuable addition form materials from museums in the United States. I am...

Rearrangement of certain Glyphipterygidae sensu Meyrick, 1913, with descriptions of new taxa (Lepidoptera) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
In 1913, Edward Meyrick removed several genera from his compound family Yponomeutidae and united them in a new group, "Glyphipterygidae". After 1954, this name has been used generally, often in the emended spelling "Glyphipterigidae". The family name was not new but used by Meyrick in an entirely different sense. Former authors (Zeller, 1839; Stainton, 1854; Frey, 1856, etc.) indicated with the name "Glyphipterygidae" only one of the two main groups of Meyrick's enlarged concept, viz., the "Glyphipteryginae" or the "Glyphipterygidae sensu stricto". In spite of its existence during quite a long time, Meyrick's family " Glyphiteryginae" proved to be an unsatisfactory combination. In later years, especially recently, its highly heterogeneous character became...

OLETHREUTINAE (Eucosmidae auct., Eucosminae auct.) Introduction The study of the South Asiatic representatives of the subfamily Olethreutinae of the Tortricidae is difficult on account of various reasons. Our basic knowledge of this group of insects originates from the knowledge of the Palaearctic fauna; unfortunately the taxonomy, and especially the nomenclature of the European Olethreutinae has for a long time been in a deplorable state of confusion and only recent pioneer work along modern lines, chiefly by Obraztsov, leads to some order. Unavoidably this confusion throws a shadow upon the study of the Olethreutinae from other regions than the Palaearctis. Since genital characters are of cardinal importance for the classification of the genera and...

Three new species of the so-called Glyphipterigidae Auctorum from Japan (Lepidoptera) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A.; Arita, Y..
The following pages contain descriptions of three new species of what has been formerly indicated as the "Glyphipterigidae auctorum", from Japan and Taiwan, almost simultaneously discovered by the first author in the Issiki Collection, now at the National Museum of Natural History, Washington, and collected by the second author in Japan. The original material will be deposited in the two above named institutions. The first author is obliged for the permission to retain some paratypes for the collection of the Leiden Museum. We are grateful to the authorities of the Washington Museum for the loan of the Issiki material. The figures are by the second author. One genus, Epicroesa Meyrick, is transferred to the Heliodinidae. Nigilgia Walker Nigilgia Walker,...

Records and description of Microlepidoptera (5) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
When revising the genera of Indo-Australian and Papuan Tortricidae (1939) the author was very much in doubt as to the systematic position of the genus Diactenis Meyrick, 1907, referred before to the Tortricidae. It did not fit in that family, neither could it be successfully transferred to any other Tortricoid family known. Through lack of further data the author decided at last to transfer Diactenis to the family Chlidanotidae; the necessity of its removal from the Tortricidae being only too evident. This decision, however, was not very happy, as Diactenis was neither at its proper place in the Chlidanotidae. In the same year (1939) the late T. Bainbrigge Fletcher suggested to the author (in litt.) to erect for Diactenis a new family. Although this seemed...

Het onderscheiden van de Nederlandse bladroller-soorten van het geslacht Acleris Hübner (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A.; Dorst, R.F..

Further records and descriptions of Bactra species (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae), chiefly in Dr. H.G. Amsel collection Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
The present short paper forms a continuation of my partial revision of certain species of the genus Bactra (Zool. Verhand., no. 29, 1956). It is chiefly based on a revision of the entire material of Bactra in the collection of the well-known specialist of Microlepidoptera, Dr. H. G. AMSEL, Karlsruhe, Germany; along with the new material of the genus from Irak, and that from Afghanistan, of the German Afghanistan Expedition 1956, collected by Dr. AMSEL himself and entrusted to me for identification. Besides, interesting material was received from Mr. TOSHIIO OKU, Sapporo, Japan, and from some other sources. The author gratefully acknowledges the kind help of the senders, and their permission to retain certain duplicates for the collection of the Leiden...

Schoenoteninae of the Netherlands Stars Range expedition 1959 to Central New Guinea (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
This paper is dedicated to Prof. Dr. L. D. Brongersma on the occasion of his 65th birthday. During several collecting expeditions of later years by this museum to the former Dutch New Guinea, organized and directed by Dr. L. D. Brongersma, a considerable number of Microlepidoptera has been collected upon my request. Among these a special place occupy the Schoenoteninae, a characteristic group of the Tortricidae, chiefly confined to New Guinea and Australia. The somewhat turbulent history of the Schoenoteninae has been aptly summarized by I. F. B. Common (1965). The definitive assignment of the subfamily has been much hampered, chiefly by the three following features: (1) the isolated position of the present group, as compared with other subfamilies of the...

Records and descriptions of Microlepidoptera (6) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
COPROMORPHIDAE Meyrick, 1905, Journ. Bombay Nat. Hist. Soc, vol. 16, p. 606. This small family represents a natural group with clearly marked characters, and is easy of descrimination. It inhabits tropical regions of Asia and extends through the Papuan region over the whole Pacific. The last mentioned region might be the country of origin of this group, as genera with peculiar and possibly archaic characters have been recorded from the Pacific Islands; some of those species are distinguished by an exceptionally large size. One of the interesting points with regard to the family is its possible place in the system. The long-ciliate or pectinate antennae, the neuration, and the complicated genital apparatus of the male seem to indicate an affinity with the...

Descriptions of a new genus and species of exotic microlepidoptera (Tortricidae) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
A closer study and becoming available of additional material show the desirability of describing a new genus and species of Tortricidae from Southern Asia. The author is indebted to Prof. Dr. W. Sauter and Mrs. M. Horak, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zürich, Switzerland, for kindly putting at his disposal material of one of the species, recently collected in New Guinea and for the premission to retain duplicates for the Leiden Museum collection. The figures are by Mr. A. C. M. van Dijk, The Hague and by the author. Penthostola gen. nov. Descriptions of new Taxa of the so-called Glyphipterigidae Auctorum (Lepidoptera) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
The present paper contains descriptions of one genus of the Hilarographini (Tortricidae), three species, one subspecies, with one forma, of the Choreutidae, and six species with one forma, of the Glyphipterigidae, all groups formerly having been assigned to the so-called Glyphipterigidae auctorum. These taxa will be illustrated in the forthcoming revisionary volume of the complex "family" in the series "Microlepidoptera Palaearctica", now in preparation. The new descriptions are published here, in order not to delay their appearance unduly. The whereabouts of the type specimens are indicated with abbreviations, of which a list will be found at the last page of this paper. The author is grateful for the permission to retain certain duplicates for the...

Descriptions of new Genera and species of the so-called Glyphipterygidae Sensu Meyrick, 1913 (Lepidoptera) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
In the course of a revision of the so-called family Glyphipterygidae sensu Meyrick, 1913, for the series "Microlepidoptera Palaearctica", several new taxa came to light. In order to facilitate the edition of the revision and to publish these new taxa without further delay, they are being described below. Using this opportunity, descriptions of non-Palaearctic new taxa are being added. The whereabouts of the type-specimens are indicated at the end of each description. The author is greatly obliged to the authorities of the museums concerned, for the loan of the material, and for the permission to keep some duplicates for the collection of the Leiden Museum. The figures have been made by the artists, Messrs. A. C. M. van Dijk, The Hague, and J. Wessendorp,...

A new species of Tortricidae (Lepidoptera) from Madeira Naturalis
Diakonoff, A.; Wolff, N.L..
When studying the Microlepidoptera fauna of Madeira, the second author came across two puzzling big specimens of the Olethreutinae (Tortricidae): one, a male from the Staatssammlung für Naturkunde, Karlsruhe, Germany, another, a female, from the Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien, Austria. The two specimens appeared to belong to one and the same, sexually dimorphous, apparently new species which is described below. The holotype, ♂, will be deposited in the Karlsruhe Museum, the allotype, ♀, in the Vienna Museum. We are indebted to the authorities of the Karlsruhe and Vienna Museums for the kindness of entrusting this material to us for identification. The photographs of the genitalia have been made by Mr. Bent W. Rasmussen, Copenhagen Museum. Acroclita...

New and old species of Glyphipterigidae and a new species of Acrolepiidae from Japan and the Far East (Lepidoptera) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A.; Arita, Y..
The often so gaudy coloured Palaearctic representatives of the family Glyphipterigidae are receiving renewed attention after a neglect of many years. In the USSR several genera of the Choreutinae have been revised (the late A. S. Danilevsky, 1964; A. S. Danilevsky & V. I. Kuznetsov, 1973) and a survey of the family in Japan has been initiated by revisions and descriptions of species of Glyphipterix Hübner, Brenthia Clemens, Tebenna Billberg, Choreutis Hübner, etc. (S. Moriuti & T. Saito, 1964; Y. Arita, 1971, 1971a, 1975, 1976). The first author of the present paper is preparing a revision of the Palaearctic Glyphipterigidae, while J. B. Heppner (University of Florida), is working on the Nearctic fauna of these insects. Descriptions of four new...

Records and descriptions of Schoenoteninae from the British Museum (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) Naturalis
Diakonoff, A..
After my 1960 synopsis of the peculiar subfamily Schoenoteninae from South Asia, I was able to bring together some additional material of these insects. In order not to postpone their identification too much, I intend to deal with diverse collections separately. The material collected by the Netherlands Stars Range Expedition, 1959, has been treated recently elsewhere (Diakonoff, 1972). The present pages deal with a part of the Schoenoteninae, picked out by me in 1972 from the vast collection of the unidentified material in the British Museum (Natural History) of London (BM). In total 21 species and one subspecies are recorded below, of which 10 species are described as new. I am grateful to the Trustees, to Dr. Klaus Sattler and Mr. C. Moreby, of that...
