Pleuronectiformes de importancia comercial del Atlántico Sudoccidental, entre los 34°30' y 55°S. Distribución y consideraciones sobre su pesca OceanDocs
Fabré, N.N.; Diaz de Astarloa, J.M..
Catch records of flatfishes obtained in exploratory cruises and in the existing literature in the geographical area between 34°S and 55°S in the Western SOuth Atlantic were analyzed to elaborate maps of the distribution of the most common flatfish species in this area. Data from commercial fleet landings at Mar del Plata Harbor were used to analyze the distribution and areas of resource concentration. The flatfish most frequently found in this study area belong to three families: 1. Paralichthidae, with the species: Thysanopsetta naresi, Paralichthys orbignyanus, Paralichthys patagonicus, Paralichthys isoceles, Xystreurys rasile. 2.-Pleuronectidae, with the species: Oncopterus darwini. 3. Achiropsettidae with: Mancopsetta maculata, Mancopsetta milfordi,...

Clave de identificación de las rayas del litoral marítimo de Argentina y Uruguay (Chondrichthyes, Familia Rajidae). OceanDocs
Cousseau, M.B.; Figueroa, D.E.; Diaz de Astarloa, J.M..
The paper has two parts. The first part comprises and illustrated identification key of the 22 species of the Rajidae Family that authors recognize in the study area. The second part includes a design of the dorsal face, a brief description and a chart distribution given for each species. Given the fact that, with a few exceptions, all species are named skates ('rayas'), common names are suggested by the authors.

Observaciones sobre el ciclo reproductivo del mero, Acanthistius brasilianus (Serranidae, Pisces) OceanDocs
Dell'Arciprete, O.P.; Christiansen, H.E.; Diaz de Astarloa, J.M..
The present paper deals with the study of the reproductive cycle of the sea-bass (Acanthistius brasilianus). Its main objective is getting some advance in the inderstanding of the gonad cycle of the sea-bass and the comprehension of its mode of reproduction. The study is emphasized on tahe females because it is thought that they permit a better analysis in this first stage of the reseach work. Some basic aspects, such as the anatomical and the histological description of the gonadas, the study of ovocyte maturation phases and the development of ovary maturity scales were into account. The gonad cycle was analized throughout the year by means of different approaches; histological analysis of ovary preparation and by following the statistical structure of...

Ciclo reproductivo y fecundidad del lenguado Paralichthys patagonicus Jordan, Jordan y Goss 1889 OceanDocs
Macchi, G.J.; Diaz de Astarloa, J.M..
The reproductive characteristics of the flounder (Paralichthys patagonicus)are analyzed on the basis of the microscopic and macroscopic study of the ovaries. Preliminary estimations of the fecundity of this species are also made. The samples were obtained from the monthly commercial langings in Mar del Plata and from research cruises undertaken by the INIDEP. A total of 641 ovaries were studied; 210 of which were selected for the histological analysis. 24 ovaries with hydrated oocytes and without post-ovulatory follicles were used to determine batch fecundity. A macroscopic maturity scale of five stages was established. The histological analysis allowed to introduce three substage within the maturation stage including a partial spawning stage. According to...
