On the identity of Orientopsaltria montivaga (Distant, 1889) and Orientopsaltria agatha (Moulton, 1911) comb. nov. (Homoptera – Cicadidae) Naturalis
Duffels, J.P..
Cosmopsaltria agatha Moulton is removed from the synonymy of Orientopsaltria montivaga (Distant) and reallocated in Orientopsaltria. The drawings of the male genitalia facilitate the distinction of both species.

The eye-catching cicada Hamza ciliaris (Linnaeus, 1758) comb. n. in Indonesia and the Pacific: taxonomie status, synonymy, and distribution (Homoptera, Cicadoidea) Naturalis
Duffels, J.P..
The new combination Hamza ciliaris (Linnaeus) is proposed for a cicada species widely distributed in Maluku ( = Moluccas), Timor, Banda, Kei and Banggai Islands, the Philippines, and the Palau group of the Caroline Islands. The synonymy of five species, treated in the literature as junior synonyms of Platypleura ciliaris, is confirmed and three other species are synonymized with Hamza ciliaris for the first time: Hamza bouruensis (Distant), H. uchiyamae Matsumura, and Platypleura lyricen Kirkaldy. The redescription of Hamza ciliaris is followed by discussions on its distribution, habitat, and taxonomie position. The current classification of the genus Hamza in the separate tribe Hamzini is questioned by the results of this study. Some remarks are made on...

A revisionary study of the genus Dundubia Amyot & Serville (Homoptera, Cicadidae) Naturalis
Overmeer, W.P.J.; Duffels, J.P..
In this paper most of the 12 known species and varieties of Dundubia are described and figured. Keys to both sexes of the species are given. Three new species, D. simalurensis, D. solokensis, and D. cochlearata are added. Characters of diagnostic value are chiefly found in the structure of the uncus in the male genitalia and in the shape of the male operculum. In most cases the female sex could be separated on account of the shape of the operculum and the outline of the abdomen. Furthermore, the value of the structure of the male genitalia for establishing the relationship of some genera of the tribe Dundubiini is discussed. The characteristic rounded pygofer indicates the close relationship of the genera Dundubia and Orientopsaltria Kato. In contrast to...

The terpsichore-group of the genus Dundubia Amyot & Serville, 1843 (Homoptera, Cicadidae) Naturalis
Bloem, J.H.; Duffels, J.P..
The terpsichore-group is proposed here for five species of the genus Dundubia Amyot & Serville, 1843. Redescriptions are provided for two species of this group, viz. D. terpsichore (Walker, 1850) from South Birma, Thailand and North Laos and D. kebuna (Moulton, 1923) from the Malay Peninsula. Three new species are described, viz. D. ensifera from East Pakistan and North-East India, D. euterpe from the Malay Peninsula and D. rhamphodes from Sumatra. A key to the species included in the terpsichore-group is presented.

Duffels, J.P..
All localities in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu can be found on the 1:250.000 maps, which are published by the Directorate of Overseas Surveys and are sold by Edward Stanford Ltd., 12-14 Long Acre, London WC2E 9LP. Maps 1:50.00 of the Fiji Islands, contoured, are also sold by Edward Stanford Ltd. (a number of sheets in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are not available). Based on these maps the Land Resources Division published 1:50.000 forest maps of the forested areas of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu with the Land Resource Study entitled Fiji Forest Inventory by M.J. Berry and W.J. Howard.

Cosmopsaltria halmaherae n. sp. endemic to Halmahera, Maluku, Indonesia (Homoptera, Cicadidae). The relationship of cicadas of Maluku Utara and Maluku Selatan Naturalis
Duffels, J.P..
Cosmopsaltria halmaherae n. sp. is described from Halmahera, Maluku and placed in the C. doryca group. The characters of this group are reconsidered and the relationships of its members are discussed. The C. doryca group and two other monophyletic groups of cicadas demonstrate a vicariant distribution in Maluku Utara (= North Moluccas) and Maluku Selatan (= South Moluccas).

Rhadinopyga n. gen. from the “Vogelkop” of New Guinea and adjacent islands, a new genus of the subtribe Cosmopsalrtiaria (Homoptera, Cicadoidea: Cicadidae) Naturalis
Duffels, J.P..
Rhadinopyga n. gen. is erected for Diceropyga recedens (Walker) from Salawati, D. impar (Walker) and D. acuminata Duffels, both from Waigeo, and Rhadinopyga epiplatys n. sp. from the “Vogelkop” area (= Tjendrawasih) of New Guinea and the islands of Misoöl and Batjan. Phylogenetic analysis suggests a sister-group relationship of Rhadinopyga n. gen. and Diceropyga Stål. The endemism of Rhadinopyga in the “Vogelkop” area is discussed in connection with the geological history of the area and the historical biogeography of the subtribe Cosmopsaltriaria.
