| ABSTRACT Microplastic (MP) pollution in coastal ecosystems is a serious problem throughout the world. In Colombia, there is little information on this issue, especially for the Pacific coast. For these reasons, the density, distribution, and types of MP on the surface of the water were studied in the bay of Buenaventura estuary, Colombia’s main seaport. A total of 36 samples were collected in two estuarine areas: the inner estuary (IE), closest to the main urban area and river mouths, and the external estuary (EE), further away from both areas, during three seasons: rainy, transition, and dry, in 2015 and 2019. | Cartagena Bay is a highly productive habitat which supports important aquatic communities and is considered an estuarine environment. During the sampling season, five commercial fish were captured: ladyfish (Elops smithi), machuelo (Opisthonema oglinum), mullet (Mugil incilis), sea bass (Centropomus ensiferus), and corvina (Cynoscion jamaicensis), all which stomach contents were analyzed. From all the fish captured, 82.6% presented contents in their stomachs, which were separated into 57 items, such as benthic microalgae, dinoflagellates, cyanophytes, sponges, mollusks, annelids, crustaceans, and fish. | La distribución espacial de los pastos marinos depende de las condiciones ambientales presentes, destacándose la profundidad, temperatura, salinidad, sustrato y nutrientes. La plataforma continental de La Guajira presenta extensas praderas de pastos marinos dominadas por Thalassia testudinum, las cuales representan más del 80 % del total nacional. Con el fin de caracterizar su distribución en función de la profundidad, materia orgánica y tipo de sustrato, se midieron algunas variables estructurales de T. testudinum en 15 estaciones situadas en uno de los tres siguientes intervalos de profundidad: somero (0-2 m), medio (2-4 m) y profundo (>4 m). | En estuarios tropicales, la mayoría de peces se alimentan a diferentes horas durante el ciclo diario. Con el objeto de determinar la ración diaria y consumo de la población de Anchovia clupeoides en la Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta (CGSM),se realizaron muestreos mensuales en un ciclo de 24 h entre octubre de 1995 y junio de 1996. A partir de un total de 4389 individuos, se estimó que la población de A. clupeoides consume casi dos veces su biomasa al año, representando un 0.53% del peso de su cuerpo al día. | En Colombia, la bahía de Cartagena es uno de los ecosistemas costeros más influenciados por la contaminación con mercurio (Hg). Con el propósito de identificar el estado ambiental de la bahía de Cartagena, en este estudio se determinó metilmercurio (MeHg) y mercurio total (HgT) en sedimentos superficiales y seston, durante cinco muestreos (febrero, abril, junio, julio y octubre), en cinco estaciones (Zona Industrial, Frente al Dique, Centro, Boca Chica y Tierra Bomba), dentro de la bahía, durante 2006.
