Toward a European Coastal Observing Network to Provide Better Answers to Science and to Societal Challenges; The JERICO Research Infrastructure ArchiMer
Farcy, Patrick; Durand, Dominique; Charria, Guillaume; Painting, Suzanne J.; Tamminem, Timo; Collingridge, Kate; Grémare, Antoine J.; Delauney, Laurent; Puillat, Ingrid.
The coastal area is the most productive and dynamic environment of the world ocean, offering significant resources and services for mankind. As exemplified by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, it has a tremendous potential for innovation and growth in blue economy sectors. Due to the inherent complexity of the natural system, the answers to many scientific and societal questions are unknown, and the impacts of the cumulative stresses imposed by anthropogenic pressures (such as pollution) and climate change are difficult to assess and forecast. A major challenge for the scientific community making observations of the coastal marine environment is to integrate observations of Essential Ocean Variables for physical, biogeochemical, and biological...

JERICO. Report after the Strategic workshop # 1 (Heraklion) ArchiMer
Farcy, Patrick; Puillat, Ingrid; Durand, Dominique; Beaume, Nolwenn; Pichard, Maelle.
One of the main JERICO objectives is to establish a strategy for the future of the coastal observation. In other words, firstly JERICO has both to perform the state of the art with regards to European coastal observation systems and to help harmonizing technologies and sharing knowledge. Then according to the results of this first stage, the project will deliver a strategic plan to step forward. As a starting point, a roadmap was written in deliverable D1.2 “Rationale and Definitions for a Common Strategy” to give a framework to the project participants and inform about intentions. The following step in the process was to organise a strategic workshop #1 which is reported in this document. In the following report presentations made during the workshop are...

Real Time Quality Control of temperature and salinity measurements within MyOcean and Copernicus in situ TAC ArchiMer
Von Schuckmann, Karina; Garau, Bartolomé; Wehde, Henning; Gies, Tobias; Durand, Dominique; Reseghetti, Franco.
An important step within the MyOcean project is to uniform existing Real Time Quality Control (RTQC) and quality assurance procedures of the different nations involved. As the MyOcean service is thought to be available at any time and open to anyone, an agreement in good Real Time Quality Control (RTQC) methods and procedures is vital to guarantee high data quality distributed to users via international exchange. The agreement on the implementation of uniform RTQC procedures have the severe potential to overcome the inconsistency within the existing datasets provided actually by the international community. This document is based upon previous experiences and has the following objectives: - “To ensure the data consistency within a single data set and...
