| In Japan, during the five first years, some penaeid shrimp farms have been frequently and heavily damaged by some bacteria and fungi attacks. Until now, these bacterial diseases affecting wild and cultivated crustaceans were only limited, for the most part, to the lobster disease (Gaffkemia) caused by the micrococcus Gaffkya homari (Hitchener and Snieszko, 1947), and to the exoskeleton diseases (Shell disease or Brown spots disease) caused by chitino destructor bacilluses and observed in different crabs (Gordon, 1966; Rosen, 1967), in the lobster (Hess, 1937) and in the shrimp Palaemon serratus (Anderson and Conroy, 1968). |
