Comparing species diversity and evenness indices OMA
Heip, C.H.R.; Engels, P..
In a low diversity brackish water habitat the diversity of the copepod community is best measured with the Shannon-Wiener information function and its evenness by an index proposed by the first author (<i>eH</i> -1)/(<i>S</i> -1). This was shown by comparing the statistical behaviour of the more important diversity and evenness indices currently used.

A note on salinity and temperature in some Moroccan brackish waters OMA
Heip, C.H.R.; De Coninck, L.A.P.; Engels, P.; Engler, G.; Verschueren, G..
A series of measures of temperature and salinity was made in different brackish waters along the Atlantic coast of Morocco. All waters examined were polyhaline, except for a series of hyperhaline salt mines. The importance of temperature in the sediment is discussed: temperature in the top layer may rise considerably (7° C) above air temperature. However, in the deeper layers, temperature is lower than in the air and the water.

Spatial segregation in copepod species from a brackish water habitat OMA
Heip, C.H.R.; Engels, P..
The segregation along the horizontal space dimension of the niche has been investigated in six copepod species occurring together in a brackish water habitat. All but one species show an aggregated pattern which may be described by a negative binomial distribution. The aggregations are small with a radius of 5-15 cm and are distributed randomly in the habitat. Aggregation of different species do not overlap; niche-overlap in this dimension show a somewhat wider utilization of space by the dominant species and insignificant overlap between species; there was no competition for space at the time of the investigation.
