Monitoring organic contaminants in small French coastal lagoons: comparison of levels in mussel, passive sampler and sediment ArchiMer
David, Arthur; Gomez, Elena; Ait-aissa, Selim; Bachelot, Morgane; Rosain, David; Casellas, Claude; Fenet, Helene.
In this study, the distribution of organic contaminants was investigated in the particular context of three Mediterranean coastal lagoons, where pollution input was hypothesised to come mainly from sediments resuspension. Mussels and semi-permeable membrane devices (SPMDs) were exposed to the water column for one month and then their content in estrogen-, benzo[ a] pyrene-and dioxin-like substances as well as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), polychlorinated biphenyls and alkylphenols was determined with biological and chemical analyses. PAH concentration was high in sediments (up to 1028 ng g(-1) dry weight), however the aqueous PAH concentrations estimated from SPMD data could be considered below the levels inducing adverse effects according to the...

Predicted environmental concentrations of carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine and their main metabolites in a coastal system ArchiMer
Fenet, Helene; Arpin-pont, Lauren; Vanhoutte Brunier, Alice; Munaron, Dominique; Fiandrino, Annie; Hilaire-buys, Dominique; Mathieu, Olivier; Budzinski, Helene; Chiron, Serge; Boillot, Clotilde; Gomez, Elena.
Pharmaceuticals are widely released in aquatic environment through treated wastewaters. They reach coastal zone indirectly via streams or directly though marine outfalls however data concerning this contamination in coastal waters are scarce. Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of pharmaceuticals have been conducted mostly in surface waters and has not been performed in coastal zone. The first step of ERA is to evaluate the exposure through predictive environmental concentration (PEC) values. The aim of this study was to predict the occurrence of some pharmaceuticals in a coastal aera subjected to treated wastewater (TWW) reject through a marine outfall (Fig 2.). Among pharmaceuticals, Carbamazepine, Oxcarbazepine and their main metabolites (Fig 1.) were...
