| ABSTRACT: Leptospirosis is a zoonosis that is widely distributed in tropical countries. This infection is also associated with reproductive losses in livestock, which has a significant economic impact. The objective of this study is to investigate the seroprevalence and risk factors associated with leptospiral infection in commercial sheep flocks from the northwestern mesoregion of Rio Grande do Sul. Serum samples were analyzed in 319 sheep using the Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT). At the time of sampling, an individual and herd questionnaire was carried out to investigate the risk factors. | ABSTRACT: Our retrospective study evaluated the survival of 24 dogs with unresectable malignant melanoma treated with radiation therapy. Fifteen dogs were treated with radiation therapy (RT) and chemotherapy (CT), five with surgery followed by RT and CT, three with palliative RT, and one with electrochemotherapy associated with RT. All dogs were treated with an orthovoltage Stabilipan I. The protocol used was three or four weekly fractions of 8 Gy. Carboplatin was administered every 21 days, a total of four times. Five percent of dogs were classified as having stage I melanoma, 17% as stage II, 50% as stage III, and 17% as stage IV. | A caquexia tem sido relacionada à maior mortalidade de pacientes com doença renal crônica, tanto em humanos, como em animais. O escore de condição corporal (ECC) pode ser utilizado em conjunto com o peso para melhor avaliação da composição corporal desses animais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi de correlacionar o escore de condição corporal com o prognóstico de felinos com doença renal crônica. Avaliaram-se 110 felinos idosos, dos quais 70 apresentavam-se hígidos (Grupo I) e 40 apresentavam doença renal crônica (Grupo II). No grupo I, apenas 5,7% dos gatos apresentaram ECC abaixo do ideal e destes nenhum foi classificado como caquético. | A biópsia com agulha de corte é um método fácil e rápido para obtenção de um fragmento do tumor, e amplamente utilizado no diagnóstico de lesões mamárias em mulheres. O objetivo do estudo foi realizar a avaliação diagnóstica da biópsia em 26 nódulos mamários de 19 cadelas, utilizando a agulha de corte Super-core II® 14-ga x 9cm. Após a biópsia, os pacientes foram submetidos à mastectomia para obtenção dos nódulos mamários. As amostras da biópsia e os nódulos foram analisados histopatologicamente e as neoplasias foram classificadas segundo a Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS). | O presente estudo teve como objetivo verificar a viabilidade do n-butil cianoacrilato na pneumostasia e hemostasia em lobectomia pulmonar parcial. Foram utilizadas seis gatas hígidas, adultas, com peso médio de três quilogramas. O procedimento cirúrgico consistiu na realização de toracotomia intercostal com lobectomia pulmonar parcial em que se utilizou adesivo cirúrgico para fechamento do lobo pulmonar. Após 21 dias da cirurgia, os animais foram novamente submetidos à toracotomia para a coleta de fragmento da região onde o adesivo fora aplicado, para análise histopatológica. | ABSTRACT This study aimed to provide baseline data for the serum biochemical parameters of Brazilian sport horses undergoing physical training for eventing to be used as a practical guide. A total of 139 blood samples were collected by vacuum venipuncture of the jugular vein from healthy horses in training. Tubes without anticoagulant were used for biochemical analysis.
