Identification of Mycobacterium bovis Isolates by a multiplex PCR BJM
Figueiredo,Eduardo Eustáquio de Souza; Silvestre,Flávia Galindo; Campos,Wilma Neres; Furlanetto,Leone Vinícius; Medeiros,Luciana; Lilenbaum,Walter; Fonseca,Leila Sousa; Silva,Joab Trajano; Paschoalin,Vânia Margaret Flosi.
Isolates from suggestive bovine tuberculosis lesions were tested by a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (m-PCR) targeting for RvD1Rv2031c and IS6110 sequences, specific for M. bovis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex respectively. The m-PCR successfully identified as M. bovis 88.24% of the isolates.

Detection of Mycobacterium bovis DNA in nasal swabs from tuberculous cattle by a multiplex PCR BJM
Figueiredo,Eduardo Eustáquio de Souza; Carvalho,Ricardo Cezar Tavares; Silvestre,Flávia Galindo; Lilenbaum,Walter; Fonseca,Leila Sousa; Silva,Joab Trajano; Paschoalin,Vânia Margaret Flosi.
Detection of tuberculosis in cattle relies on the intradermal tuberculin test (ITT), but a definitive diagnosis requires identification of the pathogen after the animal is slaughtered. DNA in nasal swabs from 50 cows was analyzed by m-PCR, targeting for the RvD1-Rv2031c and IS6110 sequences. M. bovis was identified in two of 34 tuberculous cows (5.9%). The use of mPCR of nasal swabs as an in vivo diagnostic tool for bovine tuberculosis is suggested.

Hygienic sanitary conditions of vacuum packed beef produced by slaughterhouses qualified for export in the Mato Grosso state, Brazil Ciência Rural
Machado,Maxsueli Aparecida Moura; Müller,Barbara; Carvalho,Ricardo César Tavares; Figueiredo,Eduardo Eustáquio de Souza.
ABSTRACT: Brazil is the largest exporter of beef of the world and Mato Grosso State is the highest beef producer in this country. To maintain product competitiveness and market expansion, sanitary hygienic control of the entire process is indispensable to ensure the attainment of harmless beef and quality. The objective of this study was to evaluate the hygienic sanitary conditions of vacuum-packed beef produced by establishments qualified for export in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. A total of 60 samples were submitted to coliforms counts at 35°C and at 45°C and E. coli. The mean contamination by at 35°C and coliforms at 45°C were 3,1 x 102MPN/g and 7.7MPN/g respectively. The presence of E. coli was verified in five samples, representing an occurrence...

Salmonella spp. in the fish production chain: a review Ciência Rural
Fernandes,Dandara Virginia Guia Semedo; Castro,Vinicius Silva; Cunha Neto,Adelino da; Figueiredo,Eduardo Eustáquio de Souza.
ABSTRACT: Salmonella spp is a pathogen responsible for severe foodborne infections, can be introduced into the fish production chain through inadequate handling or hygiene or contact with contaminated water, and is not a biological contaminant originally reported in fish. Fish microbiological safety is a concern for consumers, industries and regulatory agencies worldwide, since fish, an important food category in the international trade and often exported to several countries, can act as a vehicle for Salmonella transmission throughout the production chain. In addition, concerns regarding the misuse of antibiotics in aquaculture are also an issue, as a result of the increased isolation of resistant and multiresistant Salmonella serovars. In this review, we...
