Esta pesquisa teve como objetivos testar e selecionar os melhores modelos matemáticos para estimara altura total (ht) e a altura de fuste (hf), em função do diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP), bem como estabelecer arelação dendrométrica entre ht/hf. Os dados provieram da medição de diâmetros, altura total e altura de fuste detodas as araucárias existentes no fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista, de 15,2 hectares, situado no CampusJardim Botânico da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), Curitiba, PR. The objectives of this research were: to develop equations to estimate the stem and firewood volume of bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella Benth.); to evaluate the accuracy of the estimates having as a comparator the true volumes obtained by the xylometer method; to test the validity of Ahrens' (1981) published equation. In bracatinga stands, 384 trees were measured until a minimum diameter of 4 cm at the small end. The validation set was composed by 55 trees measured by the xylometer. The ² (chi-square), aggregated difference test, standard error of estimation, average error and graphical distribution of the residuals were used on validation process. This research aimed to determine dry weights and carbon contents by age, and by compartment of Mimosa scabrella trees, their correlations with other measured tree variables. The data for this research work came from 190 trees located in several counties of the Curitiba metropolitan region. Total height, crow height, stem height, DBH and crow diameter were measured of each one of the 190 trees. Every sample tree was felled down and sectioned in the following components: stem, thick branches (diameter ≥ 4 cm), thin branches (diameter < 4 cm), foliage, and dead branches.
