Evolution of reef-associated decapod crustaceans through time, with particular reference to the Maastrichtian type area Naturalis
Fraaije, René H.B..
The result of some twenty years of intensive collecting from strata in the Maastrichtian type area is a collection of more than 1,200 generally small-sized anomuran and brachyuran remains. The stratigraphical ranges of the thirty-one species known to date from the Maastricht Formation (Late Maastrichtian) are shown and five successive decapod assemblages are discussed. For the first time, decapod crustacean remains now turn out to be useful biostratigraphic tools on a local to regional scale.

An interesting case of homonymy: Notopus de Haan, 1841 (Crustacea, Raninidae; Recent) and Notopus Leonardi, 1983 (ichnofossil; Devonian) Naturalis
Bakel, Barry W.M. van; Jagt, John W.M.; Fraaije, René H.B..
Upper Cretaceous strata in the type area of the Maastrichtian Stage (SE Netherlands, NE Belgium) have yielded comparatively abundant and diverse raninid assemblages (Collins et al., 1995; Fraaye & van Bakel, 1998). To date, seven species are known: Eumorphocorystes sculptus, Pseudoraninella muelleri, Lyreidina pyriformis, Raninoides? quadrispinosus, Raniliformis chevrona, Raniliformis prebaltica and Raniliformis occlusa. These occur mainly from the upper portion of the Maastricht Formation [Emael, Nekum and Meerssen members, Belemnitella junior and Belemnella (Neobelemnella) kazimiroviensis biozones].

Polymorphy and extinction of the Late Cretaceous burrowing shrimp Protocallianassa faujasi and first record of the genera Corallianassa and Calliax (Crustacea, Decapoda, Thalassinoidca) from the Cretaceous Naturalis
Swen, Krista; Fraaije, René H.B.; Zwaan, Gijsbert J. van der.
A biometric study of chelae of the burrowing shrimp Protocallianassa faujasi (Desmarest, 1822), from the late Maastrichtian of the Maastrichtian type area, The Netherlands, has revealed three morphotypes. These types are interpreted as sexual dimorphs (male and female) and earliest ecdysis stages (immature male). Among the studied material are fifteen specimens of a new Cretaceous callianassid, Corallianassa acucurvata new species, one specimen provisionally assigned to the genus Calliax and a callianassid from the Danian. Burrows preserving callianassid chelae in situ are discussed. Based on burrow morphology a suspension feeding mode of life for P. faujasi is inferred, whereas C. acucurvata n. sp. probably was an active omnivorous analogue of its closest...

New data on the crab Binkhorstia ubaghsii (Late Maastrichtian; NE Belgium, SE Netherlands) Naturalis
Bakel, Barry W.M. van; Jagt, John W.M.; Fraaije, René H.B.; Coole, Yvonne.
Well-preserved material of Binkhorstia ubaghsii reveals some additional information that helps clarify the taxonomic affinities with the Torynommidae of this Late Cretaceous crab from the Maastricht area of Belgium and Netherland
