Última The management of eels in the Valli di Comacchio lagoon ArchiMer Gatto, M; Laniado, E; Rossi, R. The traditional management of eels in the Valli di Comacchio lagoon consists of harvesting silver migrating eels at the sluice gates. The paper investigates the possibility of improvements by allowing also the capture of yellow growing eels. First a mathematical model for the population dynamics is set up and the relevant biological parameters are estimated from the available data. Then the model is used as a tool for exploring different management alternatives and their impact on two performance indices: the total harvested biomass and the gross economic return. A sensitivity analysis with respect to the estimated biological parameters is also performed. The conclusion is drawn that both indices can be increased by catching a certain quota of yellow eels.
