Messung sekundärer Pflanzeninhaltsstoffe von Brokkoliblumen aus ökologischem Anbau Organic Eprints
Wolf, Stefanie; Fleck, Michael; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone; Zikeli, Sabine; Claupein, Wilhelm.
Today, consumer awareness on the healthiness of their foodstuff increases. The main focus is on secondary metabolites and antioxidants. Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. convar. botrytis Alef. var. italica Plenck) has many compounds beneficial for human health, like Vitamin C, Carotionoids or Anthocyanins. To investigate these compounds two techniques are used in this study which are non-destructive sensor measurements (Multiplex®) to determine the value of anthocyanins (ANTH_RG) and flavonols (FLAV) and measurements of the antioxidant potential (water- (ACW) and lipid- (ACL) soluble antioxidants) on the basis of chemoluminescence. Field trials in autumn of 2011 and spring of 2012 were conducted in a randomized block design with different broccoli genotypes,...

Entwicklung samenfester Brokkoli-Genotypen (Brassica oleracea convar. Botrytis var. Italica): Vergleich physikalischer und sensorischer Merkmalsausprägungen Organic Eprints
Sahamishirazi, S.; Frank, N; Zikeli, Sabine; Fleck, Michael; Claupein, Wilhelm; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone.
This study compared physical and sensory quality traits of three breeding lines and one hybrid of organic broccoli to find suitable open pollinating variety with high potential for marketability. An Instron texture analyzer was used to measure the firmness of the texture. Descriptive and hedonic tests were done to assess sensory quality. The evaluation of the genotypes by the panelists showed a trend to rank the lines as “good” in respect to their sensory properties and their outer appearance. CHE-MIC-31 was the firmest open pollinating genotype. Results of this study showed that this breeding line has the potential for marketability because of it’s superior physical and sensory attributes.

Open Pollinated Broccoli Genotypes: Agronomic Parameters and Sensory Attributes Organic Eprints
Wolf, Stefanie; Zikeli, Sabine; Fleck, Michael; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone; Claupein, Wilhelm.
Breeding of open pollinated (OP) varieties for organic farming gains further importance as varieties created by breeding techniques like CMS-hybridisation and cell fusion are no longer accepted by several organic farming associations. For broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica), the availability of OP varieties is very limited and the ones available are often not suitable for commercial crop production. In a participatory breeding project of the non-governmental, non-profit German association Kultursaat e.V. and the University of Hohenheim new genotypes were tested for agronomic parameters in field trials and sensory traits of cooked and raw broccoli were evaluated by two untrained consumer panels in 2012 and 2013. Agronomic traits of hybrids and OP...

Wolf, Stefanie; Zikeli, Sabine; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone; Claupein, Wilhelm.

Abele, Elisabeth; Fleck, Michael; Hartung, Jens; Zikeli, Sabine; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone.

Kamp, L; Mast, Benjamin; Claupein, Wilhelm; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone.
The tuberous root plant yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is native to the Andean region. It produces eatable roots, which contain roughly 70 % carbohydrates in dry matter. Nearly all of them are fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which are not digested by the human intestinal tract and do not cause an increase of the blood glucose level (Lachman et al. 2003). In order to identify the potential of yacon for temperate climates two yacon genotypes were investigated in a field trial located in South-West Germany. In this field trial the focus was set on tuber yield and plant development. The results of 2015 showed significant differences in tuber yield of a red (3.3 kg per plant) and a brown genotype (2.5 kg per plant). A revers picture has been found for the...

Yasaminshirazi, Khadijeh; Zikeli, Sabine; Fleck, Michael; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone.

Veh, Christine; Graeff-Hönninger, Simone; Claupein, Wilhelm; Zikeli, Sabine; Ziehm, Nele.
Close seeding of field beans (Vicia faba) has been regarded for several years as an option in organic agriculture for the short-term introduction of nitrogen into production systems. At the same time faba bean potentially supplies nitrogen (N) to crops and soil by N2 fixation and nitrogen release when crop biomass is finally mulched. The main objective of this project was to investigate and develop a method of N-supply to meet the demand of broccoli using organic N-sources. Based on the results it can be stated that yield of broccoli significantly increased in the treatment intensive legume cropping plus fertilizer when compared to an intensive legume cropping without horngrist. However, upon inspection, it was revealed that marketable yields were even...
