Met vele ogen in het veld. De resultaten van het FLORON AA-project 16
Slikke, Wout J. van der; Duistermaat, Leni (H.); Groen, Kees (C.) L.G..
Between 1989 and 1993 the FLORON Foundation has run a special project to gather data on the distribution of 105 selected plant species in the Netherlands. More than 11.500 square kilometers were visited and a total amount of 150 thousand records has been accumulated by over 1200 botanical naturalists (here called florists). The distribution data have been added to the national floradatabase FLORBASE. The main result of the project is a large increase of our knowledge on the distribution patterns of the species involved, on a detailed scale of 1 x 1 km. The contribution to FLORBASE of known sites of these species due to this project varies between 15% and 69%. The increase is highest for early-flowering species and species that grow mainly at urban sites....

Lemaire, Adrienne J.J.; Beringen, Ruud; Groen, Kees (C.) L.G..

Four years ago, we asked the field workers to estimate the local abundance of a selection of species on the inventory forms. In that way a distinction could be made between small and large populations. The response to our request was very good, so we will continue with this procedure.

Groen, Kees (C.) L.G.; Tamis, Wil L.M..

The last update of the flora database FLORBASE (2E) has been released, now counting 7.5 mill, records on a 1x1 sq. km grid, dating back to 1975. Yet, there are still areas which are strongly underrecorded. With the aim to produce a surfacecovering, new distribution atlas, and to improve the overall quality of the database, an action plan is proposed to fill up the gaps within the next 5 years.

Bedreigde en kwetsbare vaatplanten in Nederland. Basisrapport met voorstel voor de Rode Lijst 16
Meijden, Ruud van der; Odé, Baudewijn; Groen, Kees (C.) L.G.; Witte, Flip (J.-P.) M.; Bal, Dick.
In this publication five classes are treated: Lycopsida, Equisetopsida, Pteropsida, Pinopsida and Magnoliopsida. The present proposal replaces the “FLORON-Rode Lijst 1990” (Gorteria 16, 1990, 2-26). It meets the requirements of the IUCN criteria. Species are classified according to a combination of rareness and decrease into eight categories: ‘Not Evaluated’ (NB), ‘Data Deficient’ (OG), ‘Actually Not Threatened’ (TNB; IUCN: ‘Low Risk/Least Concern’), ‘Near Threatened’ (GE), ‘Vulnerable’ (KW), ‘Endangered’ (BE), ‘Critically Endangered’ (EB), and ‘Disappeared’ (VN; IUCN: ‘Regionally Exctinct’), the latter five forming together the Red List (RL2000). For this purpose 1490 species have been considered. The new List (Rode Lijst 2000) counts 499 species (38% of...

Recente binnenlandse verspreiding van Cochlearia danica L 16
Zonderwijk, Maarten; Groen, Kees (C.) L.G..
From 1970 onwards, Cochlearia danica has spread considerably along motorways in the Netherlands. Similar observations have been made in surrounding countries. The increase of the species is presumably caused by a change in road management, leading to an increase of de-icing salts during winter. The settlement of Cochlearia danica along a section of a motorway has been studied. It appears that the first settlements usually occur near intersections and viaducts; in the following years the species spreads massively along the road sections in between, nearly exclusively on the central reservation. The abundance of the species is highest in the centre strips; the soil permeability is relatively small here, so that the salt is not leached out by rainwater.
