In recent years, a number of reports have been published on current practices for helminth control in the EU, but none in organic ruminants. As conventional and organic farms differ in their helminth control strategies, it is essential to record the current control practices for organic farms across EU, identify obstacles that hamper the implementation of innovations and determine farmers’ disposition towards such innovations to facilitate the implementation of appropriate innovations. Within the PrOPara project WP 4.1 was addressing the status quo of nematode control in organic ruminant farms across Europe. This did not only include the helminth management strategies, which are currently implemented, but also farmers’ perception towards nematode control... |

Agricultural innovation is an essential component in the transition to more sustainable and resilient farming systems across the world. Innovations generally emerge from collective intelligence and action, but innovation systems are often poorly understood. This study explores the properties of innovation systems and their contribution to increased eco-efficiency in agriculture. Using aggregate data and econometric methods, the eco-efficiency of 79 countries was computed and a range of factors relating to research, extension, business and policy was examined. Despite data limitations, the analysis produced some interesting insights. For instance public research spending has a positive significant effect for emerging economies, while no statistically... |

Background The direct payment system and the Rural Development Programmes, as the pivotal elements of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), have reduced some undesirable environmental and economic side effects of pre-1992 agricultural policy. However, even after 25 years of implementation and several major reforms, fundamental challenges remain (see Annex 1): - Missing link between CAP objectives, spending and instruments (Buckwell, 2015; Stolze et al., 2016; Pe’er et al., 2017); - Ineffective Pillar 1 Greening component (Forstner et al., 2012; Hart, 2015; Lakner and Holst, 2015; Pe’er et al., 2017); - Indifferent effectiveness of Pillar 2 agri-environment and climate measures (Baldock and Mottershead, 2017); - Low acceptance of the CAP by both... |

European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) moved from production to income support and protecting the environment (e.g. AEMs). Global challenges (ecological, social, economic) requires a fundamental overhaul of the CAP to a holistic, consistent, efficient and fair mechanism rooted in sustainability. |
