El uso de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) y de los Sensores Remotos (SR) se ha incrementado en el manejo de pesquerías marinas en los últimos años. Sin embargo, su aplicación ha sido muy opca en Colombia. Este artículo revisa brevemente el uso de herramientas espaciales en el manejo de las pesquerías marinas, retrospectiva y predictivamente. Se discuten casos de estudio de SR y SIG en la investigación pesquera y los retos a futuro de su potencial aplicaci´´on en las medidas de manejo de las pesquerías en Colombia. Recomendamos que, para progresar, la prioridad podría estar en el entrentamiento de los científicos pesqueros en SR y SIG, el incremento de la colaboracíon entre las instituciones, la colecta de datos estandarizados y el desarrollo... With the aim to characterize tthe soft-bottom macrofauna and its spatial and temporal distribution patterns in the Santa Marta area, a two years sampling program was performed at depths between 7 to 60 m. Density, biomass and diversity of the community were determined. The BIOENV method was applied in order to relate the distribution of the associations and the environmental variables (depth, turbidity, organic matter, organic carbon, organic nitrogen, organic phosphorus and median particle diameter). A density of 1499 indiv *m-2 and 10.9 g*m-2 wet biomass were obtained. The spatial and temporal variations of the polychaete assemblages were studied within and off a shallow (10-25 m) tropical bay (Bahía de Portete). The polychaete abundances at family level and their trophic mechanisms were used for this purpose. Sediment samples were collected at six stations in this bay during the wet and dry seasons. Multivariate analysis indicated that off- Bay polychaete assemblages were different from the bay ones; this spatial variation was related to sedimentary characteristics, depth and turbid-water conditions. On the other hand, these assemblages did not show significant differences between the dry and wet seasons.
