| The forecasting tool SOPRA has been developed with the objective to optimize timing of monitoring and control measures of insect pests in fruit orchards. Phenologymodels were developed driven by solar radiation, air temperature and soil temperature on hourly basis including simulation of characteristic habitat conditions for Dysaphis plantaginea, Hoplocampa testudinea, Cydia pomonella, Grapholita lobarzewskii, Cacopsylla pyri, Rhagoletis cerasi, Anthonomus pomorum and Adoxophyes orana. On base of local weather data, age structure of pest populations is simulated and crucial events for management in organic and integrated production are announced. | Die verschiedenen Exakt- und Praxisversuche sowie die ersten Erfahrungen von Praxisanwendungen zeigen, dass mit einer Nacherntebehandlung mit 2% Schwefel (entspricht 32 kg/ha bei einem Baumvolumen von 10 000 m3/ha) eine erfolgreiche Bekämpfungsmöglichkeit gegen Birnpockenmilben vorliegt. Raubmilben werden nach unserer Erfahrung kaum beeinflusst, da sie zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits weitgehend die Winterquartiere bezogen haben. Auch andere negative Auswirkungen konnten wir bis jetzt nicht feststellen. Unter Berücksichtigung aller bisher bekannten Fakten muss in Zukunft für die Birnpockenmilbenbekämpfung bevorzugt die neu bewilligte Herbstbehandlung mit Schwefel empfohlen werden. |

| In 1995, an experiment was planted at Wädenswil for comparing organic and integrated apple production. The overall goal of this experiment was to develop a data set which allows for an objective overall comparison of the two production concepts. Horticultural, ecological and economical traits were looked at. In practical terms, the study should particularly clarify how suitable the two systems are for producing marketable fresh fruit under Swiss conditions. The approach of an on-station comparison with a split-plot design with 3 replicate blocks and the factors “production system” (1st factor) and “variety” (2nd factor) was chosen.
