The genera Eucalyptus is widely used by Brazilian industries. Nonetheless some concerns still persist regarding some of its technological properties. Aiming the improvement of the wood properties the heat treatment is being largely employed in Brazil. The objective of this research was to study the effect of heat treatment on physical and mechanical properties of Eucalyptus cloeziana. We sampled 5 trees with 21 years from which we used the first two logs with length of 3 m each. Heat treatment of 160 and 210 °C were applied for 1 h. O presente estudo visou avaliar tratamentos térmicos na madeira sob atmosfera de glicerina, que é resíduo da indústria de biodiesel, além de direcionar o produto obtido para os nichos de mercado da indústria madeireira. Foram selecionadas seis árvores de Eucalyptus grandis e E. cloeziana provenientes de plantios homogêneos com 21 anos. Dessas, foram confeccionados os corpos de prova e encaminhados para um banho de óleo laboratorial contendo glicerina bruta pré-aquecida a 50 °C. Os tratamentos consistiram no aquecimento da madeira em atmosfera de glicerina a 125 °C e 165 °C, por 30 min, além das amostras controle. The aim of this study was verify the drying rate and the wood quality from Hovenia dulcis, subjected to three drying processes (45, 60 and 75 ºC ). This way, 45 boards with the followings dimensions were used: 25 x 100 x 500 mm. These boards were dried until reach a moisture of 10%. The defects were quantified using a caliper, measuring the maximum deformation in the middle or in an extremity of the piece, depending on the type of defect. The results showed that the drying rate until 30% was greater than the others were and increased with higher temperatures, except for the 45 ºC process, not only in the hygroscopic stage but also from green condition to 10% of moisture.
