Metacyclopsjanstockin. sp. (Crustacea, Copepoda) von Antigua (Westindische Inseln) Naturalis
Herbst, Hans-Volkmar.
In a well of the island Antigua (West Indies) a species of Metacyclops was collected, related to M. hartmanni Herbst, 1960 and M. laticornis Lowndes, 1934. This new species, named M. janstocki is described and figured in both sexes. Both a differential diagnosis and a supplement to the key of Herbst (1988: 149-152) are given.

Amsterdam Expeditions to the West Indian Islands, Report 52. Zwei neue Cyclopoiden (Crustacea, Copepoda) von der Insel Barbados Naturalis
Herbst, Hans-Volkmar.
In two wells on the island Barbados (West Indies) females and males of two species of Cyclopidae were found that are apparently new to science. One of them, Halicyclops laciniatus n. sp., belongs to the group of Halicyclops bearing elongated hyaline appendages on the distal margin of the third abdominal segment, and the spine formula 3 4 4 3. The second new species possesses a fifth leg as found in the genera Microcyclops and Cryptocyclops, whereas the structure of the swimming legs approaches that of the genus Apocyclops, viz. the distal segment of the endopodites bears an apical spine and a longer, plumose seta. Typical of the new species is also the expression of the furcal armature (absence of medioterminal seta, lateral seta particularly long and...

Amsterdam Expeditions to the West Indian Islands, Report 32. Ein neuer Copepode (Cyclopoida: Gnathostoma) von den Westindischen Inseln: Halicyclops antiguaensis n. sp Naturalis
Herbst, Hans-Volkmar.
In a well on the island of Antigua (West Indies), one female of a new species of Halicyclops was found, described as H. antiguaensis n. sp. The male still remains unknown. The new species belongs to the thermophilus group of Halicyclops, characterized by a spiniform protuberance on each side of the genital somite, the end of which is curved backward, and a spine formula of the third exopodite segment of P1-P4 of 3, 4, 4, 3. It differs from H. thermophilus Kiefer, 1929, H. spinifer Kiefer, 1935, H. venezuelaensis Lindberg, 1954, and H. dedeckeri Brownell, 1983, by the relatively short spines on P5. The new species is closely related to H. latus Shen & Tai, 1964, but in this species the furca and segment 3 of the 4th endopodite are relatively longer. Due...

Amsterdam Expeditions to the West Indian Islands, Report 49. Beschreibung des Thermocyclops Hastatus antillensis n. ssp. mit einem Bestimmungsschlüssel für die Gattung Thermocyclops Kiefer, 1927 Naturalis
Herbst, Hans-Volkmar.
In a well on the island of Guadeloupe (West Indies) a new subspecies of Thermocyclops was found, belonging to the schmeili group. It is closely related to Thermocyclops hastatus Kiefer, 1952 (described as Th. schmeili hastatus), but because of some morphological peculiarities the population is designated as Thermocyclops hastatus antillensis n. ssp. In addition the fact is considered that all hitherto known species and subspecies of the schmeili group are found in the Tropics of the Old World (Africa, Zanzibar, Madagascar and India). A key is provided of Thermocyclops, mainly based on the literature.

Amsterdam Expeditions to the West Indian Islands, Report 54. Zwei neue Metacyclops (Crustacea Copepoda) von den Westindischen Inseln Barbados und Aruba: M. agnitus n. sp. und M. mutatus n. sp., sowie ein Bestimmungsschlüssel für das genus Naturalis
Herbst, Hans-Volkmar.
In wells of the islands of Barbados and Aruba (West Indies) two new species of Metacyclops were found. One, belonging to the minutus-group, is described as Metacyclops agnitus n. sp. and is closely related to Metacyclops minutus (Claus, 1863). In absence of complete descriptions of M. minutus, especially concerning absolute measurements, these are completed with observations on a West-German population. The other species, called Metacyclops mutatus n. sp., may have evolved from mendocinus-like ancestors, but differs obviously in comparison with the morphologically similar species M. aequatorialis Dussart, 1977 and M. chelazzi Dumont, 1981. A key for Metacyclops is provided, mainly based on the literature, as an aid for future investigations.

Amsterdam Expeditions to the West Indian Islands, Report 40. Hesperocyclops improvisus n. g., n. sp., ein neuer Cyclopoide (Crustacea, Copepoda) von den Westindischen Inseln Naturalis
Herbst, Hans-Volkmar.
In certain wells on the islands Antigua and Guadeloupe (West Indies), females and males of a new species of Cyclopidae were found, apparently belonging to an undescribed genus, for which the name Hesperocyclops improvisus n. g., n. sp., is proposed. The systematic position of this taxon is near Apocyclops Lindberg, 1942, but there are some morphological distinctions, e.g. in the shape of the genital somite and of the anal operculum in both sexes, in the different reduction of the 4th endopodite in females and males, and in the shape of P5. These developments may be considered an evolutionary step in the direction of the morphology of Haplocyclops Kiefer, 1952 (according to Dussart, 1982, a subgenus of Bryocyclops Kiefer, 1927).

Neue marine Cyclopoida Gnathostoma (Crustacea, Copepoda) von Puerto Rico. Amsterdam Expeditions to the West Indian Islands, Report 57 Naturalis
Herbst, Hans-Volkmar.
In the flat littoral of the coast of Puerto Rico (West Indies) at the reef of Cayo Enrique a few Cyclopoida Gnathostoma were collected in colonies of the corallimorpharian Ricordea florida Duch & Mich., which belong to the subfamilies Pterinopsyllinae and Euryteinae. These are the following species: Pterinopsyllus insularis n. sp., Euryte grata n. sp. and Ancheuryte notabilis n. g., n. sp. Pterinopsyllus insularis differs from the till now known species of the genus by the number of segments of the first antenna, as well as in the form and armature of P 5. A differential diagnosis and a key for the genus is added. Because of striking differences in the structure of antenna 1 and P 5, a new genus Pterinopsyllotus is established for Pterinopsyllus...
