Systematics of the North American subterranean amphipod genus Bactrurus (Crangonyctidae) Naturalis
Koenemann, Stefan; Holsinger, John R..
Bactrurus Hay is a relatively small generic group that inhabits caves and related groundwater habitats in parts of eastern and central USA. Two field trips, conducted in the spring of 1999, yielded important new locality records that give us a better knowledge of the distribution of the genus. The examination of fresh samples as well as older collection material has resulted in descriptions of four new species. Based on these descriptions and redescriptions of three previously known species, the taxonomy of the genus is revised. In addition, a phylogenetic analysis using morphological data is employed to examine the relationship of Bactrurus to 12 selected crangonyctid taxa, including its potential sister genus Stygobromus Cope. Five epigean and hypogean...

A new genus and two new species of subterranean amphipod crustaceans (Hadziidae) from the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands Naturalis
Holsinger, John R.; Yager, Jill.
Bahadzia, new genus, and two new species of amphipod crustaceans are described from anchialine caves in the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. One of the species is recorded from three caves on Grand Bahama Island and one cave on Great Abaco Island, whereas the other species is recorded from two caves on the island of Providenciales. The new genus is apparently more closely related to Metaniphargus and Saliweckelia than other hadziid genera in the peri-Caribbean region, but it also shares some important characters with Mayaweckelia.

Tuluweckelia cernua, a new genus and species of stygobiont amphipod crustacean (Hadziidae) from anchialine caves on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico Naturalis
Holsinger, John R..
Tuluweckelia cernua, a new genus and species of stygobiont amphipod is described from six anchialine caves near the northeastern coast of the state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The new genus is closely allied morphologically with Mayaweckelia Holsinger, which is also recorded from caves on the Yucatan Peninsula. Both taxa have probably evolved from marine ancestors since the late Tertiary.
