| New indigenous species are Conopodium majus and Vulpia membranacea, and the recently recorded hybrid Scutellaria galericulata x minor (S. x hybrida). New and fully naturalized neophytes are the invasive species Hydrocotyle ranunculoides and Impatiens capensis. Other new neophytes are Anisanthamadritensis, Centaurea stoebe subsp. rhenana, Chenopodium ambrosioides, Crambe abyssinica, Dittrichia graveolens, Erigeron karvinskyanus, Koelreuteria paniculata, Malus baccata, Ornithopus compressus and Physalis peruviana. Anthericum liliago and Dianthus superbus were recorded again in the Netherlands after 80 years of disappearance, and Eleocharis ovata after 150 years. | As a result of nature management measures a number of rare and endangered species reappeared, often after many decades of absence on the site: Apium inundatum, Anagallis tenella, Cicendia filiformis, Echinodorus repens, Eleocharis quinqueflora, Juncus tenageia, Ludwigia palustris, Myriophyllum alterniflorum, Pilularia globulifera and Viola persicifolia; the latest news (summer 1997) being the rediscovery of the presumably extinct Juncus capitatus. New are the alien species Nonea lutea, Salix udensis, and Typha minima. Field botanists are urged to collect more herbarium material and to improve the quality of their collections. |

| In het voorjaarsnummer van 1996 deden wij verslag van het spectaculaire woekeren van de Grote waternavel (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides). Gedurende de zomer en herfst van 1995 veroverde deze drijvende, oorspronkelijk uit Amerika afkomstige waterplant in recordtijd grote delen van vaarten in West- en Midden-Nederland. Zo massaal, dat bijvoorbeeld in Utrecht-Rijnsweerd de watergangen tot 4 maal toe moesten worden vrijgemaakt. Gezien de serieuze problemen die deze plant sinds enkele jaren in Australië oplevert is het van belang te weten of de Grote waternavel ook in onze streken een permanente bedreiging kan vormen. Zeker toen bleek dat de vegetatief groeiende plant onze laatste zachte winters had overleefd. |

| The best news is the discovery of a new inland locality of Apium repens, an endangered species included in both the Habitat Directive and the Berne Convention. The List has a striking number of new records of rare ferns: Asplenium adiantum-nigrum, A. septentrionalis, Botrychium lunaria, Ceterach officinarum, Cyrtomium falcatum, Dryopteris affinis, Ophioglossum vulgatum, Polystichum aculeatum, P. lonchitis, P. setiferum, and the first record of Adiantum raddianum. Three species are rediscovered: Callitriche palustris, Filago arvensis and Salvia verbenaca. | De recente studie van M.Hedrén (Lund, Zweden) van de Carex flava-groep in Scandinavië en Finland toonde aan dat op moleculair niveau vier soorten goed te onderscheiden zijn: C. flava, C. lepidocarpa, C. demissa (= C. oederi subsp. oedocarpa) en C. oederi (= C. oederi subsp. oederi). Door de moleculaire resultaten te koppelen aan de morfologische eigenschappen van de planten kon worden aangetoond dat de vier taxa sterker bleken te overlappen in de urntjes-kenmerken dan werd aangenomen, terwijl andere kenmerken (tongetje, gesteeldheid en lengte mannelijke aar) een grotere betekenis hebben voor de identificatie van de planten. | Vanuit Europees gezichtspunt was de ontdekking van twee nieuwe vindplaatsen van Apium repens en drie van Liparis loeselii belangrijk nieuws. De ontdekking van Gagea minima was verbazend. Na meer dan een eeuw kon de melding van Peucedanum officinale bevestigd worden door zijn herontdekking. Nieuw is de vestiging van de Wilde kool (Brassica oleracea subsp. oleracea), en de mogelijke vestiging van Verbascum virgatum. Zowel Bromus lepidus als Festuca heterophylla worden nu tot de standaardlijstsoorten gerekend. Van Utricularia intermedia en Spiranthes spiralis werd een nieuwe vestiging vastgesteld. | Een nieuw overblijvend gras uit Zuid-Afrika, Ehrharta erecta Lam., werd in de herfst van 2004 en 2005 aangetroffen op een tweetal grachten in Amsterdam. De dwarsribbels op met name de bovenste steriele lemma zorgen voor goede herkenbaarheid. De soort heeft wereldwijd gezien een groot areaal en is mogelijk invasief van aard. Gezien de recente inburgering van warmteminnende grassen wordt aandacht gevraagd voor nieuwe vondsten. In autumn 2004 and 2005 an unknown perennial grass was found on two different localities in the City of Amsterdam. The grass proved to belong to Ehrharta erecta Lam., a South African, but widespread and possible invasive species. The species can easily be identified by its transverse corrugations in the second sterile lemma. |

| Solanum carolinense L., een kniehoog bestekeld en met sterharen bezet, bleekblauw bloeiend struikje is recent op een aantal plekken aan vooral de Waal gevonden. De eerste vondst dateert echter al van 1983 bij Ochten, maar de soort werd toen niet herkend. Gebleken is dat de populaties zich in ieder geval vegetatief uitbreiden en dat inburgering een kwestie van tijd lijkt te zijn. Pimpinella peregrina L. is een op P. anisum L. gelijkende witbloeiende schermbloem met sterk behaarde vruchten. Bij eerstgenoemde zijn de vruchten echter kleiner en hangen de jonge schermen, terwijl die van P. anisum rechtop staan. Pimpinella peregrina is nu bekend van verstoorde habitats op de Waaldijk nabij Nijmegen, in Rotterdam en uit de omgeving van Brunssum. Het gaat steeds... |

| The appearance of the alien floating pennywort Hydrocotyle ranunculoides as an invasive weed of an urban waterway in Utrecht (the Netherlands) was the reason to do some research on the possible origin and the distribution of the weed. The plant, propagated in aquatic nurseries, probably escaped as a nuisance weed favoured by two successive abnormally hot summers, with little frost in-between. There are indications that the plant may withstand average Dutch winters. During the autumn of 1995 the species had been recorded on several localities in the Central, Western and Southern part of the Netherlands, one of which in a nature reserve. |

| In the 20th century ca. 50 species disappeared; ca. 80 species became fully naturalized, 20% of which without any form of human interference. The greatest losses are among weeds and among species from nutrient poor, weakly acid habitats. Woodland species clearly increased, and the explosive urbanisation led to new niches for a number of species, even so that we now distinguish an “urban district” for plants. The present list contains a nice number of new records of very rare plants: Anacamptis pyramidalis, Apium repens, Blackstonia perfoliata s.s., Carex laevigata, Centaurea calcitrapa, Circaea alpina, Crepis foetida, Equisetum telmateia, Equisetum variegatum, Filago vulgaris, Huperzia selago, Hypericum canadense, Moneses uniflora. | Ruud van der Meijden was een enthousiast en inspirerend botanicus die een belangrijke bijdrage heeft geleverd aan de ontwikkeling van de floristiek in Nederland. Hij stond aan de wieg van de Stichting FLORON en het databestand FLORBASE. Hij heeft botanisch en floristisch Nederland vertrouwd gemaakt met de modernste inzichten in de plantensystematiek door deze toe te passen in de vier edities van de Heukels’ Flora van Nederland1–5 die hij heeft samengesteld en geschreven. Ruud van der Meijden was an enhousiastic and inspiring botanist who has paid a significant contribution to the development of Dutch floristics.
