Transversus Menti Muscle in a Thai Cadaver International Journal of Morphology
Sripanidkulchai,Kittisak; Chaisiwamongkol,Kowit; Iamsaard,Sitthichai.
In submental and around the mouth areas, the superfacial muscles are considered in surgery of some deformities of mouth angle. Herein, we report a rare case of the Transversus menti muscle (TM) in a Thai 74 year-old male cadaver. This TM originated from both sides of the oblique line of depressor anguli oris and formed as transverse fibers in submental area. Their fiber ran under the chin and was superficial to platysma muscle. The TM was innervated and supplied by mandibular branches of facial nerve and small branches of the submental artery. This report attempted to discuss the possible function and clinical significance of the TM.

The persistent metopic suture on adult skull (also known as metopism) can confuse the clinicians during diagnosis of the frontal bone fractures in emergency conditions. The incidences of metopism have been documented in many populations except in Thais. Therefore, this study was aimed to determine the incidence of metopism in adult Thai skulls. The identified 706 Thai dried skulls (481 males and 225 females) were carried out for metopic suture observations. The results showed that 53 skulls (7.51%) were present of the metopic sutures. The metopism observed could be classified into major two types (complete metopic suture (20 skulls [2.83%]) and incomplete metopic suture (33 skulls [4.67%]). For the incomplete metopic suture could be further classified into...

Boonruangsri,Porntip; Suwannapong,Bussakorn; Rattanasuwan,Somsiri; Iamsaard,Sitthichai.
The prevalence of the aneurysm, tortuosity, and kinking of abdominal aorta and iliac arteries is important for primary consideration in operative planning. The present study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence of abnormality of abdominal aorta and iliac arteries and demonstrate the patterns of kinking external iliac arteries in Thai cadavers. Eighty-five Thai embalmed cadavers (58 males and 27 females) were observed and measured the diameter of abdominal aorta and iliac arteries using a vernier caliper for assessment of aortic aneurysm (AAA). To investigate the tortuosity and kinking of iliac arteries, a standard goniometer was applied to measure the individual angle of iliac artery. In addition, the kinking patterns of external iliac artery were...

Incidence of Unusual Formation of the Median Nerve in Thai-Northeast Embalmed Cadavers International Journal of Morphology
Namking,Malivalaya; Chaiyamoon,Arada; Chaijaroonkhanarak,Wunnee; Khamanarong,Kimaporn; Woraputtaporn,Worawut; Iamsaard,Sitthichai.
This study aimed to investigate the incidence of unusual formation of the median nerve in Thai cadavers. Two hundred and ninety-two upper limbs were dissected and observed. The results showed that 5 out of 292 (1.71 %) arms had unusual splitting of median nerve that supplied the flexor arm muscles. Concomitantly, the musculocutaneous nerve was absent. In 4 out of 5 variant arms (80 % or 1.37 % of total upper limbs), each median nerve was unusually formed by 3 roots; the first and second roots were from lateral cord and the third one from medial cord. The union of the second lateral and medial roots to become a median nerve distantly extended in the arm. The second lateral roots gave off small muscular branches to the upper part of flexor arm muscles....

Kaewma,Ailadda; Sampannang,Apichakan; Tuamsuk,Panya; Iamsaard,Sitthichai.
The dried clavicles have been well documented to determine individual sex and age in many races. Such morphometric investigations in Isan (Northeastern) Thais have never been reported. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the sex from dried clavicles of Isan-Thais using morphometric analysis. The identified 454 dried clavicles (254 males and 200 females), averaged age (60.69±14.36 years) were measured and analyzed for identification point (IP) and the demarking point (DP) values. The results showed that the identified-bone percentages by IP of the maximum clavicular lengths in males and females were 90.55 % (>139.9 mm) and 89 % (<140.6 mm). In addition, such percentages of the mid shaft circumference measured in male clavicles was 83.46 %...
