Evaluations in genetic relationship amomg local rice genetic resources in the lower northern region were perform edusing cluster analysis method. In this study, a total number of 81 rice varieties were selected and clustered in both morphology traits by using the UPGMA of simple matching and agronomic traits by using the Square Euclidean by Ward method. From the morphology traits grouping results, there were 14 clusters (G1-G14) with4 main clusters i.e.Group 12 Group13 Group 2 and Group 6 which could be grouped. The results also showed that Group 12 has the highest number of members of rice varieties that was 56 varieties. The characteristics of Group 12’s members were green leaf, green leaf sheet, white pollen, yellow grain, non-glutinous rice and the...

Irrigated paddy fields are the rice growing areas having high yield potential. Two significant factors enhancing high yield are the well-adapted variety and appropriate management. PSL05101-93-1-32 is a promising rice line derived from the 3-way cross of PSL00508-3-1-1-4/IR66738-118-1-2//IR67966-188-2-2-1 in 2005. It has as high yield potential as 965 kg/rai (6.03 t/ha). The average grain yield is 730 kg/rai, greater than PSL2, CNT1 and RD47 varieties by 14, 13 and 7%, respectively. The maturity is 115 days after sowing by transplanting method. Plant height is 83-90 cm. This promising line is a non-glutinous long grain rice having straw-color husk. The paddy rice seed dimension is 10.4×2.61×2.10 mm in width × length × thickness, respectively. The paddy...

The major rainfed rice growing area in the Lower North region of Thailand has good soil fertility. It has high potential to produce good rice varieties including aromatic rice. However, at present, Nahng Mon S-4 is the only aromatic, intermediate amylose content rice variety being officially released. Therefore, a selection for an aromatic, intermediate amylose content, high yield and resistant to major disease and insect pest is needed to provide the alternative for farmers. The promising line designated PSL04106-28-1-2-1-1-1 was obtained the double cross being HPSL1/Mudgo//HSRN/SPR90116-15-2-2-1-1///SPR90116-15-2-2-1-1 during 2002-2004. F1 and F2 were massively sown in 2005-2006, respectively. F3 and F4 were tested against brown plant hopper (BPH)...

Recently, the outbreak of brown planthopper in irrigated paddy fields in the lower northern region was found frequently due to continuous rice growing resulting in low yield of rice production. RD49 is a non–glutinous rice which is insensitive to photoperiod. This line was obtained from 3–way cross, PSL00508-3-1-1-4 /IR66738-118-1-2//IR68544-29-2-1-3-1-2. The average yield is 733 kg/rai which is 26, 15 and 6% greater than those of Chai Nat 1, Phitsanulok 2 and RD47, respectively whereas the maximum yield potential reaches 939 kg/rai. The plant type shows moderately strong culm with about 95 cm height, 102-107 days to maturity for seed broadcasting and 116 days for transplanting. The line is moderately resistant to brown planthopper and resistant to rice...

In wet season, rainfed area in Lower Northern of Thailand has has an abundance of soil and water availability which is suitable for growing a photoperiod-sensitive rice with high yield potential. However, favorite rice varieties often have low yield and are susceptible to rice pests. Breeding for high yield and resistance to disease and insect pests while maintaining good eating quality is, therefore, the major approaches in changing rice varieties for good qualities, increased yield and adequate consumption. Filter cake is by - product of cane sugar manufacture. It consists of plant nutrient which is useful for soil fertility improvement. According to low fertility of most paddy soils, an experiment had been conducted with combination of chemical fertilizer application and filter cake incorporation for soil fertility and yield improvement in two different soil types in wet season during 1992-2002. This experiment was 4x3 factorial in randomized complete block design, 3 replications, 2 factors with 4 filter cake rates at 0, 500, 1,000 and 1,500 kg/rai and 3 nitrogen rates at 0, 3 and 6 kg N/rai for photo sensitive rice cultivar (Khao Dawk Mali 105) planted in Koksamrong Soil Series (sandy loam, mixed isohyperthermic, typic tropaqualfs) at Lop Buri Rice Research...

CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 was a short-growth duration rice variety which was suitable for irrigated area encountered flooding in raining season. This rice variety derived from three–way cross of Suphanburi 1 /IR64//CNT86074-25-9-1. CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 had maturity short growth duration so that it could be early harvested at about 87 days after sowing in wet season and 96 days in dry season. It had recorded yield potential of 1,004 kg/rai with the average yields of 681 kg/rai, which was comparable with the RD41 (742 kg/ rai), but 2% higher than that of RD43 (666 kg./rai). CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 is a short-growth duration rice variety which is suitable for growing in the rain-fed area. This rice variety derived from CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2, a product ofthe crossing of three cultivars; i.e. Suphanburi 1, IR64 and CNT86074-25-9-1(Suphanburi1/IR64//CNT86074-25-9-1), that still expressed its genetic diversity while it was growing in a breeder seeds production field. This leaded to the selection of the elite lines, CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 which had an early maturation and short growth duration so that it could be harvested shortly at about 92 days after sowing. It had a fairly high yield potential of1,004 kg/rai with the average yields of 681 kg/rai, which is comparable with theRD41 (742 kg/rai), but higher thanRD43 (666...
