Sünteetiliste taimekaitsevahendite laialdane kasutamine ning nendega kaasnev võimalik negatiivne mõju keskkonnale ja inimeste tervisele on tänapäeva põllumajanduses üks kõige rohkem muret tekitav teema. Aedmaasika (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) kui ühe maailmas enim kasvatatud marjakultuuri suurima kahjustaja, seene Botrytis cinerea Pers. põhjustatava hahkhallituse tõrjumisel kasutatakse praeguseni kõige sagedamini sünteetilisi fungitsiide. Aedmaasikas on maailmas üks enam kasvatatavaid marjakultuure. Kuigi enamik aedmaasika Fragaria x ananassa sortidest on isetolmlemisvõimelised, aitab risttolmlemine kaasa suuremate ja kõrgema kvaliteediga viljade moodustumisele (Klatt jt., 2014). Puudulikult tolmeldatud õitest arenenud viljad on sageli ebakorrapärase kujuga ja väiksemad. Lisaks on hästi tolmeldatud viljad ka paremini värvunud, tugevama viljalihaga ning säilivad korjamisjärgselt kauem (Klatt jt., 2014). Aedmaasika põhiliseks kahjustajaks on hahkhallitus, Botrytis cinerea (Legard jt., 2000), mille tõrjumisel on sünteetiliste preparaatide kõrval osutunud efektiivseks ka mullaseen Gliocladium catenulatum. Sublethal effects of kaolin and the biopesticides Prestop-Mix and BotaniGard on metabolic rate, water loss and longevity in bumble bees (Bombus terrestris) Organic Eprints

Kaolin is an inert material with a broad range of applications, e.g. as an insecticide and as a filling substance in the formulation of biopesticides. Hence, bees that dispense biopesticides to the field in the context of entomovectoring are exposed to elevated risks because of sideeffects of those products. Targeted precision biocontrol and enhanced pollination Organic Eprints

BICOPOLL and BICOPOLL-NET connect 12 research units from 10 European countries and autonomous regions into a concerted effort to develop and bring into practice improved methods of biocontrol and pollination services, using strawberry as the case study. BICOPOLL partners will use bees to (i) precision deliver biocontrol agents to the flowers of the target crops to provide control of diseases, (ii) improve the pollination of horticultural crops.

Bombus terrestris as an entomovector for suppressing Botrytis cinerea in open field strawberry Organic Eprints

Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) is a fruit crop grown worldwide, but diseases such as the grey mould Botrytis cinerea frequently limit its yield. Most of grey mould infection on the fruits is initiated during the flowering period. Use of foraging bees as disseminators of microbial control agents (MCAs) to flowers is known as entomovector technology. Many researchers have shown that bumble bees can efficiently vector MCAs; however, most studies have been conducted in greenhouse conditions.

Hiljuti Eestis läbi viidud uurimuse tulemused näitavad, et 64 protsendis aedmaasika viljade proovidest oli pestitsiidijääke. Selles tulemuses ei ole midagi uut: aedmaasika proovidest on ka mujal maailmas leitud pestitsiidijääke, mõnikord suurtes doosides.

The effect of biofungicide Prestop Mix on metabolic rate, water loss and longevity of bumblebee Bombus terrestris L. Organic Eprints

Prestop Mix is based on a natural soil fungus Gliocladium catenulatum J1446, which is applied to control fungal plant diseases. Bees can be used as vectors in carrying the biofungicide powder onto crop flowers; this has two benefits: pollination and plant protection from fungal pathogens. An important precondition is for the biopreparation to be safe for bees, therefore lethal and sublethal effects have to be tested. One way to assess sublethal effects of pesticides is to measure the metabolic rate (MR) and water loss rate (WLR) of an insect.

Biopreparaatide mõju kimalaste Bombus terrestris L. elueale Organic Eprints

Mahepõllumajanduses on lubatud kasutada bakteritest, seentest ja viirustest valmistatud preparaate. Putukatõrjevahendina on laiemas kasutuses mullabakter Bacillus thuringiensis preparaat ning mullaseen Beauveria bassiana. Aedmaasika kasvatajatele on välja töötatud preparaat Prestop Mix, mis sisaldab mullaseene Gliocladium catenulatum Strain J1446 spoore ja mütseeli. See preparaat võitleb edukalt hahkhallituse vastu aedmaasikal ja aedvaarikal, samuti ka mitmetel köö- giviljadel ja isegi ilutaimedel. Taimedele või nende õitele kantavate preparaatidega puutuvad kokku ka paljud kasulikud organismid, näiteks tolmeldajad. Bumble bees can be used as vectors to distribute different powdery bioprepartions to control plant pest and diseases. The aim of the study was to test the safety of four powdery substances: wheat flour (used as negative control), bioinsecticide Botanigard 22 WP (based on entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana), biofungicide Prestop Mix (based on soil fungus Gliocladium catenulatum) and kaolin, which is an inert clay mineral used as carrier in Prestop Mix. The effect of those substances on the metabolic rate and water loss of bumble bee foragers after topical treatment was measured using flow-through respirometry.

Hahkhallitus on aedmaasikal suuri saagikadusid põhjustav seenhaigus (Døving ja Mage, 2001; Williamson jt., 2007), mille tõrjumine keemiliste taimekaitsevahenditega on mahetootjale keelatud. Seetõttu on tekkinud vajadus alternatiivsete taimekaitsemeetodite järele, mis oleks loodust säästvamad ning sobiks ka kasutamiseks mahepõllumajanduses. Üheks selliseks alternatiiviks on entomovektortehnoloogia – biotõrje meetod, kus pulbrilisi biopreparaate viivad taimeõitele mesilaselaadsed putukad. Antud meetod sobib kasutamiseks õisi kahjustavate taimehaiguste ja -kahjurite tõrjel, kuna toitu (õietolmu, nektarit) otsides kannavad mesilased biopreparaadi täpselt aedmaasika õitele – see võimaldab vähendada preparaadikulu ning säästa keskkonda. Hahkhallitus (Botrytis cinerea Pers.) on aedmaasikal (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) suuri saagikadusid põhjustav seenhaigus, mille tõrjel sünteetiliste taimekaitsevahenditega ilmneb mitmeid negatiivseid kõrvalnähte nagu kiire resistentsuse kujunemine ning pestitsiidijääkide kogunemine viljadesse ja keskkonda, mistõttu on üha enam hakatud eelistama bioloogilisi tõrjemeetodeid. Üheks võimaluseks on viia biopestitsiid maasikaõiteni kasutades meemesilasi (Apis mellifera L.), nimelt lisatakse vastav pulbriline preparaat mesilastaru küljes olevasse dispenserisse, mida läbides jääb preparaat mesilase kehakarvade külge ja viiakse toidukorje käigus aedmaasika õitele. Strawberry is a fruit crop grown worldwide. There are two main strawberry production systems: open fields and protected cultures (greenhouses or high tunnels). Growing strawberries under high tunnels has many advantages such as protection from different weather conditions, but also disadvantages such as lack of pollinators. The aim of this study was to investigate whether additional pollinators (bumble bees) visit strawberry flowers at different rate under high tunnels compared to open fields.
