The influence of canine brucellosis on morphofunctional features of epididymal spermatozoa: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Angrimani,D.S.R.; Lúcio,C.F.; Losano,J.D.A.; Brito,M.M.; Silva Júnior,R.A.; Keid,L.B.; Nichi,M.; Vannucchi,C.I..
ABSTRACT The present work reports a clinical case of a mongrel dog, with serological diagnosis of brucellosis, from which epididymal sperm analysis was performed. Sperm samples were collected from different segments of the epididymis (tail, corpus, and caput). Sperm samples were evaluated for computer-assisted motility analysis (CASA), spermatic morphology, mitochondrial activity and sperm plasmatic membrane and acrosomal integrity. Changes in sperm movement patterns were found (progressive motility, percentage of rapid sperm, percentage of rapid velocity, average pathway, curvilinear velocity, velocity straight line, amplitude of lateral head displacement, straightness and linearity), increase of total morphological defects (51%) and absence of sperm...

Infecção em cão por Brucella abortus: relato de caso Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Megid,J.; Salgado,V.R.; Keid,L.B.; Siqueira,A.K.; Meirelles,C.E.; Moretti,D.M..
Brucella abortus infection is reported in a dog from a rural area that presented at clinical evaluation left testicular enlargement and right testicular decrease. Serum resulted negative to rapid agglutination test and agar gel immunodifusion with Brucella ovis antigen but positive to buffered plate agglutination test, tube agglutination test and 2- Mercapthoetanol with B. abortus antigen. Brucella isolation was negative in blood, testicular material, semen and urine. Brucella DNA was detected in PCR from urine and blood.

Evaluation of DNA extraction protocols for Brucella abortus pcr detection in aborted fetuses or calves born from cows experimentally infected with strain 2308 BJM
Matrone,M.; Keid,L.B.; Rocha,V.C.M.; Vejarano,M.P.; Ikuta,C.Y.; Rodriguez,C.A.R.; Ferreira,F.; Dias,R.A.; Ferreira Neto,J.S.
The objective of the present study was to improve the detection of B. abortus by PCR in organs of aborted fetuses from infected cows, an important mechanism to find infected herds on the eradication phase of the program. So, different DNA extraction protocols were compared, focusing the PCR detection of B. abortus in clinical samples collected from aborted fetuses or calves born from cows challenged with the 2308 B. abortus strain. Therefore, two gold standard groups were built based on classical bacteriology, formed from: 32 lungs (17 positives), 26 spleens (11 positives), 23 livers (8 positives) and 22 bronchial lymph nodes (7 positives). All samples were submitted to three DNA extraction protocols, followed by the same amplification process with the...
