Entwicklung regionaler Vermarktungsstrategien gefährdeter Tomatensorten in NRW, Deutschland Organic Eprints
Klein, Daniela; Simons, Johannes; Banik, Ina; Köpke, Ulrich.
Four old and endangered tomato cultivars were cultivated in a greenhouse under organic conditions. With an average yield between 10 to 12 kg m-2, these old cultivars can compete with those tomato cultivars currently dominating the organic market. New marketing strategies were developed, tested in focus groups and offered on the re-gional market in organic shops and in a staff canteen. Both a coloured tomato basket and a mixed tomato fruit salad were positively evaluated by the consumers. Short distribution distances, preserving biodiversity and organic production were important preference factors for the consumers.

Influence of management practices on quality and biodiversity of tomatoes in Germany Organic Eprints
Klein, Daniela; Kumar, Ramesh; Koepke, Ulrich.
Four old and endangered tomato cultivars were cultivated under greenhouse conditions with different levels of organic N-fertilisation and harvest at different maturity stages in order to develop a conclusive concept to preserve the diversity of old, endangered and multicolour cultivars. First results of several physio-chemical and sensory parameters were analysed to describe product quality. In order to assess consumer acceptance, 550 consumers were interviewed. The individual attributes of the cultivars, which differ in size, shape, colour, taste and health-related, beneficial physio-chemicals, are promoted by optimal harvest time. A combination of these cultivars distributed in regional markets is considered as a suitable concept for saving these...

Yield and shelf life of organically and conventionally produced strawberries were investigated in an one-year field experiment (2012) at the Chamber of Agriculture North-Rhine Westfalia, Station Cologne-Auweiler, Germany. Fruits were analysed from a closed tunnel and open field. Conventional yield was significant higher in com-parison to organic in both cases. Whereas there were no differences in shelf life in tunnels, organic fruits from open field decayed significant faster in comparison to conventional fruits.

The effect of two different roofing systems in comparison to the open field (closed tunnel, rain shelter - open field) were investigated in a field experiment during the seasons 2009 to 2011 at the Chamber of Agriculture North-Rhine Westfalia, Station Cologne-Auweiler, Germany. Four shortday varieties ('Clery', 'Darselet', 'Elsanta' and 'Sonata') were used. Considered quality features were yield, behaviour of the fruit during storage, fruit quality such as fruit firmness and sugar- and acid contents. The yield of the shortday strawberries was highest in the tunnel for normal and cold temperatures; under hot conditions the yield was reduced. The rain shelter protects against freezing during cold periods and at high temperatures it reduces heat stress, so...
