Many different bedding and pot plant species are grown. Out of them Pelargonium is the most important bedding plant and it is described here as an example for other ornamental bedding plants that may be grown in pots.

Bevorratungsdüngung mit Schafwolle bei Bio-Frühjahrsblühern im Topf Organic Eprints

Schafwolle wird im Zierpflanzenanbau als organischer Dünger eingesetzt. Bei der Erzeugung von Frühjahrsblühern (Bellis perennis und Myosotis sylvatica) wurde die vollständige Bevorratungsdüngung mit Schafwollpellets in drei verschiedenen Größen und mit geschnittenem Schafwollvlies getestet. Mit einer Düngungshöhe von 6-10 kg Schafwolle/m³  bei B. perennis und 10 kg/m³ bei M. sylvatica konnten gute Pflanzenqualitäten erzielt werden. Düngung mit kleinen Pellets führte zum höchsten Nmin-Gehalt im Substrat und zum besten Pflanzenwachstum, welches durch die Messung von Frischmasse, Höhe und Durchmesser der Pflanzen ermittelt wurde. Pflanzengesundheit und Gesamteindruck wurden bei Düngung mit geschnittenem Schafwollvlies am besten bewertet.

Organische Dünger in Topfkulturen auf dem Prüfstand - wie steht es mit der Stickstofffreisetzung? Organic Eprints

Matching nitrogen demand of plants and N release of organic fertilizers with respect to amount and timing is one key for successful cultivation of organic ornamentals. Thereby for plants with a low to moderate N demand growers can add the fertilizer as complete preplant application (CPA). For plants with a high N demand splitting fertilization in a reduced preplant application combined with an additional fertigation (RPA+F) is preferable. Aim of the current research was the investigation of N release of organic fertilizers in incubation experiments. Results of the incubation experiment were linked to a pot trial with pelargonium.
