| Organic fruit growers often suffer economic losses due to insect damages. The available natural pest control products are not always effective; and most important: many organic fruit growers would prefer not to use any pesticide at all. Growing flowers in order to gain more natural enemies, and hence less pests is a technique called Functional Agro-Biodiversity (FAB). Ongoing research in this CORE Organic Plus project aims to collect existing knowledge and generate new knowledge in order to use FAB successfully in orchards. |

| Frugt og bær trives godt på øerne. En vigtig årsag til dette er at nattefrost i maj kan tage pynten fuldstændigt af frugt- og bærudbytter, men den kolde oplevelse er sjælden, når man er omgivet af lunkent vand, som øboere jo er. Frugt og bær giver også trivsel til dem, der spiser dem. Indholdet af sundhedsfremmende stoffer er i frugt og bær større end i nogen anden landbrugsafgrøde, så det er produkter, vi burde spise flere af. |

| Naturen er ødsel og verden er mangfoldig. Vi ved det godt, men det er sjældent, man oplever det så intenst som under et besøg på Pometet i Tåstrup, vores nationale samling af frugt- og bærsorter. Her er omkring 2000 forskellige sorter af frugt og bær samlet på et sted. Æblesorterne udgør den største samling med omkring 750 forskellige sorter, og de er et imponerende syn i sensommeren, hvor frugternes forskelligheder træder frem. |

| This report is the result of a network project which was established to discuss the potential for collaboration on development of systemic approaches to pest management without pesticides between Chinese and Danish researchers. The focus is on systemic approaches rather than input substitution of synthetic chemicals with agents of natural origin, however, the latter is considered as an integrated tool for the development and design of systemic approaches. The discussions were, furthermore, limited to management of invertebrate pests as well as diseases, while other pests such as weeds have not been included in the discussions. | Perennial flower strips improve the effectiveness of biological pest control by predators and parasitoids in fruit production. The guide presents results from the European EcoOrchard project and other studies, explains how the flower strips function, introduces suitable plants and describes step by step the procedure for planting and maintenance. The information is supplemented by information on the costs and possible disadvantages of the flowering strips. |

| Økologisk frugtavl dyrkes i hele verden, og der forskes en del i metoder til forbedring af resultatet. Problemerne varierer lidt, men både sortsvalg, ukrudtsbekæmpelse og plantesystemer er fælles udfordringer. Konferencen ”Organic Fruit 2012” blev afholdt i staten Washington i USA i juni, og der blev fremlagt mange spændende forsøgsresultater. Takket være støtte fra Fonden for Økologisk Landbrug deltog jeg i konferencen og vil her bringe de bedste tip videre. |
