Prophyll, calyculus, and perianth in Santalales Naturalis
Kuijt, J..
The concepts of prophyll and calyculus in Santalales are reviewed, and are found to be of variable taxonomic importance in different families. The calyculus in Loranthaceae has been generally interpreted as a reduced calyx, a concept recently challenged by Wanntorp & Ronse De Craene (2009), who concluded that it represents a fusion of prophylls. This view, as well as the accompanying biseriate corolla notion, is rejected. In Loranthaceae, prophylls associated with flowers have sometimes provided significant taxonomic features, while in Viscaceae this is true mostly in the vegetative portions of plants, especially in Arceuthobium, Dendrophthora and Phoradendron.

A preliminary survey of foliar sclerenchyma in neotropical Loranthaceae Naturalis
Kuijt, J.; Lye, D..
The foliar sclerenchyma of all genera of neotropical Loranthaceae is surveyed by means of cleared leaves, using selected species. Three general categories of sclerenchyma are recognized. Fibers may form discontinuous or continuous bundles associated with veins or, more rarely, occur as individual cells. Sclereids, often of the astrosclereid type, are present in varying concentrations, or may be absent. Cristarque cells are very common, and occasionally extremely abundant, but are lacking in several genera. The survey includes information on terminal tracheids which are almost invariably present. Attention is drawn to the systematic significance of sclerenchyma where warranted.

A note on stamen position and petal number in Loranthaceae Naturalis
Kuijt, J..
Stamen position in Loranthaceae is summarized in both the Old and New Worlds. In the former, stamens are inserted on petals at the same height in an individual flower, with very few exceptions that appear to be in basalmost genera only. In the Americas, much diversity exists in both the position and the within-flower shapes of stamens, phenomena that occur in many genera, Psittacanthus showing the greatest diversity. The dimorphic, or at least the biseriate condition is believed to be the plesiomorphic state. Some comments are added on petal numbers in the family.
