The present study has been carried out in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh on economic analysis of menthol mint cultivation in the year 2010. The economics has been worked out by comparing costs and returns at different stages by the conventional method. The linear production function has been fitted to evaluate the resources-use efficiency in the production of menthol mint. The study has shown that the major portion of operational cost is shared by hired labour, interculture operations, distillation charges, irrigation and machine / tractor charge. The overall benefit-cost ratio has been found to be 2.55, which indicates a higher profit for farmers on less investment in mint cultivation. The present study was conducted in Rajpura block of Patiala district in Punjab with a sample of 50 vegetables growers. The total cost of cultivation was estimated at Rs 49563/ha for onion and Rs 34840/ha for cauliflower. The net returns were found higher for onion (Rs 74597/ha) as compared to that from cauliflower (Rs 38072/ha). Majority of these vegetables were being disposed off through commission agent/wholesaler (more than 90 per cent) followed by retailer and directly to the consumer. The economic viability of agriculture-based enterprises for farm women has been studied along with the constraints and prospects for these enterprises in the Punjab state by selecting the districts of Amritsar and Gurdaspur. Amongst the different enterprises adopted by the women, the four have been identified as most popular, viz. dairy, bee-keeping, papar/ badi and pickles making. The study has been conducted with a total sample of 100 women entrepreneurs for the year 2004-05. The study has revealed the age group of most of the women entrepreneurs as 36 to 65 years.
