| The present work aimed to verify the effects of Baypamun®HK on the survival of albinic mice, experimentally infected with Toxoplasma gondii RH strain, treated or not with sulfadiazine-pirimetamine, as well as on the formation and the number of brain cysts. Four groups of 20 mices were inoculated with 10(5) tachizoites, subcutaneously, and undergone to different treatments. Serum tests were carried out by indirect immunofluorescence and samples of brain, liver and lung were collected from animals who died for cytological and brain cysts examinations. After 60 days, all survivors were sacrificed. | Com o intuito de se estudar a presença de suínos portadores renais de leptospiras foram colhidas 131 amostras sanguíneas e os respectivos rins de animais durante o abate em abatedouro da região de Botucatu-SP. Pela prova de Soroaglutinação Microscópica obteve-se 48 amostras sorológicas positivas para um ou mais sorovar de Leptospira spp., com uma taxa de ocorrência de anticorpos anti-leptospira de 36,64%, e maior importância para o sorovar icterohaemorrhagiae. | ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of anti-Leptospira spp. antibodies in female buffalo in the state of Pernambuco. A total of 123 female buffalo blood samples were collected from five properties distributed in the state of Pernambuco. The microscopic agglutination test was used to study anti-Leptospira spp. antibodies. The occurrence of anti-Leptospira spp. antibodies was 28.5% (35/123; CI 20.7–37.3%) and on different properties, the occurrence ranged from 28.6% to 80.0%, with 100% of the properties showing animals with positive results. | ABSTRACT: Although, serological studies for leptospirosis in iguanas have already been performed, there is no report in the Amazon region. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the presence of anti-Leptospira sp. in free living Iguanas-verdes (Iguana iguana) of Mangal das Garças Park, metropolitan region of Belém, Pará, Northern region of Brazil. Twenty-nine blood samples of Iguana-verde (I. iguana) were collected from Mangal das Garças Park. For the serological diagnosis of Leptospira sp. it was employed microscopic agglutination test (MAT) with 25 live antigens of Leptospira sp. as antigens. It was observed that all samples were non-reactive, suggesting no exposure to the agent. |

| Foram estudadas aglutininas antileptospíricas em 403 amostras de soro de búfalos, provenientes de sete Municípios do Vale do Ribeira, Estado de São Paulo, coletadas no período de janeiro de 1992 a junho de 1993. Utilizou-se o teste de soroaglutinação microscópica, considerando-se positivas as amostras cujo título fosse igual ou superior a 100. O maior título encontrado foi 1600 para o sorovar bratislava (1 amostra), seguido de 800 para wolffi (4 amostras). Do total, 152 (37,7%) das amostras foram positivas, sendo que, dentre os sorovares testados, a prevalência em ordem decrescente foi: wolffi (68, 44,8%), icterohaemorrhagiae (51, 33,6%), hardjo (51, 33,6%), castellonis (25, 16,5%), djasiman (12, 7,9%), grippotyphosa (10, 6,6%), pomona (8, 5,2%),... |
