Large-scale brush-control programs are being proposed in Texas to increase off-site water yields. Biophysical and economic simulation models are combined to estimate the effects of brush control on representative ranches in four ecological regions of the Edwards Plateau area of Texas. Net present values of representative ranches in three of four regions decrease with brush control. Cost shares necessary for ranches from the three regions to break even range from 7% to 31% of total brush-control costs. Any large-scale brush-control program will therefore require a substantial investment by the state of Texas. |

The objective of this study is to measure the costs associated with the unintentional human deaths and acute illnesses resulting from pesticide uses. This study also estimated comparative health costs among alternative pesticides that can be used for a certain crop. The annual total cost of human deaths and illnesses resulting from pesticide uses in the United States is estimated at $38.83 million. The average health cost per 1,000 pounds use ranges from $.40 for 2,4,D to $23,128 for diquat. |

Locating fed cattle price discovery center is revisited using the framework that combines recent progress in causal research with time series analysis. The Bernanke factorization in innovation accounting is obtained by a graphical method called directed acyclic graph which uses data to identify the contemporaneous causal structure among the innovations. This may represent an improvement over the conventional methods which use human judgment and/or theory to supply such information. Results indicate that Kansas market is a dominant price leader where new information is discovered. Contrary to the previous studies, Nebraska market does not appear to be a price discovery location. |
