| The application of the new Water Framework Directive (WFD) of the European Union will require a dense and frequent monitoring of chlorophyll-a near the coast. Not counting the transitional water bodies located in the vicinity of estuaries, not less than seventy four coastal water bodies have to be monitored along the coast of the French Atlantic continental shelf and the English Channel. All the available data have to be gathered to implement a comprehensive monitoring scheme. | Created in 1986, the REPAMO network (Network of mollusc pathology), is a national zoosanitary surveillance network of shellfish health status along the French coasts. Its activities are in keeping with two European Directives, 91 /67/EEC and 95/70/EC and are a patt of the institutional tasks ofIfremer. The aims of the network are to prevent the introduction and spread of exotic pathogens and to survey the evolution of notifiable pathogens already present in France. | Phytoplankton observation in the ocean can be a challenge in oceanography. Accurate estimations of its biomass and dynamics will help to understand ocean ecosystems and refine global climate models. Relevant data sets of phytoplankton defined at a functional level and on a submeso- and daily scale are thus required. In order to achieve this, an automated, high-frequency, dedicated scanning flow cytometer (SFC, Cytobuoy b.v., the Netherlands) has been developed to cover the entire size range of phytoplankton cells whilst simultaneously taking pictures of the largest of them. | Le littoral Nord - Pas de Calais / Picardie montre de nombreux signes de dysfonctionnement de l'écosystème reliés (à tort ou à raison ?) à l'activité humaine le long des côtes. Ces signes extérieurs sont le plus souvent identifiés comme un envahissement par certaines espèces, tant animales que végétales. Parmi ces espèces envahissantes, Phaeocystis sp. (algue phytoplanctonique) montre une prolifération régulièrement observée. Son cycle de vie semble, au moins en partie, fortement dépendant de la disponibilité des éléments nutritifs.
