The association of very low-density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR) haplotypes with egg production indicates VLDLR is a candidate gene for modulating egg production Genet. Mol. Biol.

Abstract The very low-density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR) transports egg yolk precursors into oocytes. However, our knowledge of the distribution patterns of VLDLR variants among breeds and their relationship to egg production is still incomplete. In this study, eight single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that account for 87% of all VLDLR variants were genotyped in Nick Chick (NC, n=91), Lohmann Brown (LohB, n=50) and Lueyang (LY, n=381) chickens, the latter being an Chinese indigenous breed. Egg production by NC and LY chickens was recorded from 17 to 50 weeks. Only four similar haplotypes were found in NC and LohB, of which two accounted for 100% of all NC haplotypes and 92.5% of LohB haplotypes. In contrast, there was considerable haplotypic diversity...

Multipotent male germline stem cells (mGSCs) from neonate porcine testis BABT

ABSTRACT Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are the foundation of spermatogenesis, during which unlimited spermatozoa is produced daily derived from SSCs in the testis throughout life of the male. Germline stem (GS) cells can be isolated from spermatogonia, which shared the characteristics of SSCs and embryonic stem cells (ESCs), and can be passaged stably in vitro. The study of GS cells contributes to understanding spermatogenesis process. However, little is known about the GS cells in domestic animals. Here, we report the successful establishment of a serum- and feeder-free system for multipotent male GS cells (mGSCs) from postnatal porcine testis. These cells expressed pluripotent markers, such as Oct4, Nanog, C-myc, and germline-specific markers...

Screening potential prognostic biomarkers of long non-coding RNAs for predicting the risk of chronic kidney disease BJMBR
Li,Na; Cui,Yan; Yin,Min; Liu,Feng.
Not much is known about the roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) for chronic kidney disease (CKD). In this study, we included CKD patient cohorts and normal controls as a discovery cohort to identify putative lncRNA biomarkers associated with CKD. We first compared the lncRNA expression profiles of CKD patients with normal controls, and identified differentially expressed lncRNAs and mRNAs. Co-expression network based on the enriched differentially expressed mRNAs and lncRNAs was constructed using WGCNA to identify important modules related to CKD. A lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA pathway network based on the hub lncRNAs and mRNAs, related miRNAs, and overlapping pathways was further constructed to reveal putative biomarkers. A total of 821 significantly...

MicroRNA-383-5p inhibits the progression of gastric carcinoma via targeting HDAC9 expression BJMBR
Xu,Gang; Li,Na; Zhang,Yan; Zhang,Jinbiao; Xu,Rui; Wu,Yanling.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs), as post-transcriptional regulators, have been reported to be involved in the initiation and progression of various types of cancer, including gastric cancer (GC). The present study aimed to investigate the role of miR-383-5p in gastric carcinogenesis. Cell viability was analyzed using CCK-8 kit. Annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate/propidium iodide double staining was used to evaluate cell apoptosis. The expression levels of miR-383-5p and histone deacetylase 9 (HDAC9) mRNA in GC tissues and cell lines were analyzed using RT-qPCR. The protein expression of HDAC9 was detected by western blotting. We found that HDAC9 was up-regulated and miR-383-5p was down-regulated in GC tissues and cell lines. High HDAC9 expression or low miR-383-5p...
