Occurrence and damages of Danothrips trifasciatus (Thysanoptera, Thripidae) on Calophyllum brasiliense (Clusiaceae) in Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Thomazini,Marcílio José; Lima,Élison Fabrício Bezerra.
Occurrence and damages of Danothrips trifasciatus (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) on Calophyllum brasiliense (Clusiaceae) in Brazil. Danothrips trifasciatus Sakimura, 1975 (Thysanoptera, Thripidae) is recorded for the first time in Brazil, in the municipality of Garça, São Paulo state. Individuals were collected in April 2011 damaging young leaves of guanandi, Calophyllum brasiliense Cambess. (Clusiaceae), forest species of increasing importance in Brazil. Future studies involving aspects on biology and population dynamics of the thrips in this plant species need to be carried out, in order to establish its potential economic importance to guanandi.

Thrips species associated with varieties of the native cerrado fruit tree Hancornia speciosa Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,Jéssica Ferreira; Pereira,Jaqueline Magalhães; Rocha,Charlles Brandão Silva; Peres,André Júnio Andrade; Lima,Élison Fabrício Bezerra.
Abstract Studies of insects associated with the fruit tree Hancornia speciosa Gomes (Apocynaceae), a native of the Brazilian Cerrado popularly known as “mangabeira”, are generally restricted to reports from seedling nurseries. Thrips predominate among insects that attack this crop. This study investigated the species of Thysanoptera that use this native fruit as a host, and which variety they prefer. The H. speciosa varieties speciosa s.str., cuyabensis, gardneri and pubescens were obtained from the collections of the ex-situ germplasm bank of native species at the Escola de Agronomia, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiânia, Brazil. Evaluations were conducted from January through December 2016. A total of 1679 individual thrips were identified. Thrips...

New records of thrips species on mango and natural enemies associated Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Matos,Sidnéia Terezinha Soares de; Andrade,Daniel Júnior de; Zanata,Renan Moisés Paneghini; Azevedo,Emiliano Brandão de; Lima,Élison Fabrício Bezerra.
Abstract The mango tree (Mangifera indica L.), native to Asia, is expanding in Brazil. However, research related to phytophagous organisms and natural enemies associated with this fruit are scarce in the country. The aim of this work was to report new species of thrips-pest and natural enemies associated with mango tree inflorescence. The work was carried out in a Tommy Atkins mango orchard located in the municipality of Jardinópolis, São Paulo, Brazil. The arthropods found in malformed inflorescences were collected and identified. Frankliniella gemina Bagnall, Frankliniella distinguenda Bagnall (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and Haplothrips gowdeyi (Franklin) (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae) thrips-pest species were recorded for the first time associated with...

Thrips species (Insecta: Thysanoptera) associated to Cowpea in Piauí, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Lima,Élison Fabrício Bezerra; Fontes,Lúcia da Silva; Pinent,Silvia Marisa Jesien; Reis,Adriana Saraiva dos; Freire Filho,Francisco Rodrigues; Lopes,Angela Celis de Almeida.
Thrips are still poorly known in cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp., in Piauí, despite their economic importance in this crop, which stands out as one of the major cultures of North and Northeast regions from Brazil. Thus, this study aimed to identify the thrips species associated to the crop in Teresina and Bom Jesus, Piauí, Brazil. From October 2007 to August 2008, cowpea inflorescences were sampled in the municipalities by the technique of simple bagging. After screenings, thrips were preserved in AGA, mounted on permanent microscope slides and identified. The identified species were: Frankliniella brevicaulis Hood, 1937, F. insularis (Franklin, 1908), F. schultzei (Trybom, 1910), F. tritici (Fitch, 1855) and Haplothrips gowdeyi (Franklin, 1908). The...

Thrips species (Insecta: Thysanoptera) associated to Fabaceae of agricultural importance in Cerrado and Amazon-Caatinga ecotone from Brazilian Mid-North Biota Neotropica
Lima,Élison Fabrício Bezerra; Monteiro,Renata Chiarini; Zucchi,Roberto Antonio.
Little is known about the Thysanoptera fauna from Brazilian Mid-North. In spite of being a region with at least three biomes and some ecotones, the studies on this insect order in the region are related to associations to a few cultivated plant species. On Fabaceae, plant family with the second largest number of records of thrips species associated in Brazil and huge economic importance for Mid-North, there are thrips records only on cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.). Due to the lack of knowledge on the Thysanoptera fauna in such a diverse area and the importance of crops of this family in the region, this research aimed to survey the thrips species associated to Fabaceae of agricultural importance in areas of Cerrado and Amazon-Caatinga ecotone in...

Thrips on fabaceous plants and weeds in an ecotone in northeastern Brazil Ciência Rural
Lima,Élison Fabrício Bezerra; Zucchi,Roberto Antonio.
ABSTRACT: Thrips (Thysanoptera) on 33 species of Fabaceae (ornamental and forage) and some weed species were surveyed in areas of caatinga-cerrado ecotone in northeastern Brazil. Twenty species of thrips were identified, all of which are associated for the first time with the plants sampled in this study, totaling 26 new host associations, based on collections of immatures. Five species are probably new to science, illustrating the diversity of thrips in the region. A few thrips species that also occur as pests in other regions of Brazil are discussed. Our data extend the distribution area of thrips species and provide basic information on their associated plants.
