| The sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus is an important exploited resource on the Mediterranean coast and has been the subject of much research. In the Bay of Biscay, the situation is different, as some studies have been conducted on the Spanish Basque coast but few on the French part of that coast. However, the Basque coast offers favourable conditions for the development of this species, and its exploitation could be a source of potential diversification for fishermen, especially in the context of difficulties with some other resources. | The ROMELIGO project included a proposal of abundance indicators for mur-west stock using professional fishing data. The methodolgy is based on the selection of samples of representative vessels grouped in clusters with the same technical characteristics, taking into account their LPUE for specifed period and area. The analysis was conducted on an historical dataset from 2005 to 2015. To be able to update it, conditional decision trees were used to find rules to assign any new vessels to one of the predefined OTB or GNS clusters. | Striped red mullet (Mullus surmuletus) belongs to the species for which individualization of stocks is advanced by ICES in western Europe for areas including the Bay of Biscay and the areas bordering the Iberian peninsula. Since 2012, ICES has provided recommendations with regards to this stock. These recommendations are given for two years and are based on an approach adopted by ICES in 2012 in the case of insufficient data for an analytical evaluation (Data Limited Stocks, DLS). | The new protocol, established by Auby et al. (2012) to the seagrass monitoring under the Water Framework Directive, was used in Txingudi bay (Hendaye, France). Based on 3 metrics ("taxonomy", "extension" and "density"), the quality index of the water body for the angiosperm indicator, was "medium", while it was in "good condition" in 2012. These results are explained by a sharp drop in the density observed on the monitoring station. The cartography of the species distribution showed a decrease of the total area of seagrass, particularly in the southern part of the mudflat. However, further north, small intertidal seagrass spots appeared. Atypical weather conditions in 2013 (cold, heavy spring rain) with silting of this area, could explain this situation. |

| En 2007, le CIDPMEM 64-40 (alors CLPMEM de Bayonne), avait porté une étude sur le poids socio-économique de la filière pêche du quartier maritime de Bayonne. Elle avait permis de décrire le système halieutique local et de quantifier l’impact économique et social de l’activité de pêche sur le territoire par la quantification des flux monétaires entre acteurs et la quantification des emplois générés par l’activité de pêche. | Under the WFD monitoring the “subtidal macroalgae” parameter is calculated for the second time on the Basque coast water body from the protocol used in Britain and adapted to local environmental context. In 2011, three stations were sampled instead of 5 in 2008. The result is the same to the one obtained in 2008 with a quality index "medium" for the whole of the water body. The main criterion penalizing the calculation of the index is "opportunistic species" for each station. There is variability between sites according to the criteria between the two campaigns reflecting the interest of monitoring every three years on the three sites. |
