| The use of winter peas becomes more and more common in organic agriculture. In field trials, winter pea-triticale intercrops were compared with spring peas concerning their yield performance. The differences in gross margins were calculated by using data from origin farms. Savings in seed costs (-136 €/ha) and machine costs (-13 €/ha) could be gained by replacing spring pea sole crops with winter pea-triticale intercrops. Additionally, there were yield increases of 33 % for intercropped winter peas, which resulted in an extra benefit of 378 €/ha. Aside from that, the intercropped triticale provides an extra income. |

| This paper presents results of a standardized online survey among Suisse organic farmers and their buyers on fairness and satisfaction in business relations. A majority of participating Suisse organic farmers and buyers are satisfied with their business relationships. Farmers not only expect their buyers to pay fair prices but also to act consistently, be transparent and invest in good personal relations. Buyers expect their agricultural suppliers to provide high quality products, be reliable and transparent while fair prices are mentioned less frequently. | Diversität im Anbausystem wird vielfach als Schüssel für stabile Erträge und ein resilientes Produktionssystem gesehen. Die evolutionäre Pflanzenzüchtung und der Anbau von genetisch stark heterogenen Composite Cross Populationen (CCP) sind ein Ansatz die Diversität zu steigern mit dem Ziel stabilere Erträge zu erwirtschaften. Ein Trade-off besteht allerdings zwischen einem kurzfristig hohen Ertragspotenzial bei Liniensorten und potentiell langfristiger Ertragsstabilität von CCP – auch unter Extrembedingungen. | Die integrierte Biogaserzeugung in Ökobetrieben zieht vielerlei agronomische Auswirkungen auf das gesamte Betriebssystem nach sich. Herkömmliche Wirtschaftlichkeitsanalysen vernachlässigen jedoch das ökonomische Potential dieser Effekte. Dieser Beitrag verfolgt daher einen ganzheitlichen Bewertungsansatz, der diese monetären Zusatzleistungen mit einbezieht. Modellsimulationen ökologischer Fruchtfolgesysteme, die insbesondere eine veränderte Stickstoff-Effizienz berücksichtigen, zeigen mögliche Ertragssteigerungen der Marktfrüchte und eine verbesserte Wirtschaftlichkeit des Ackerbaus durch die integrierte anaerobe Vergärung sowohl in viehlosen als auch in viehhaltenden Ökobetrieben auf. |

| Stroh ist ein essentieller Bestandteil der Kohlenstoffversorgung landwirtschaftlicher Böden. Humusersatzstrategien mit Strohnutzung können vielfältige Auswirkungen sowohl auf die Organische Bodensubstanz als auch die jeweilige Kostenstruktur aufzeigen, abhängig von Verwendungsform und Logistik. Die ökonomische Analyse verschiedener Strohnutzungsstrategien identifiziert das Belassen des Strohs auf dem Feld als kostengünstigste Alternative, die allerdings große Kohlenstoffverlustpotenziale aufweisen kann. | Auch wenn die Stromerzeugung durch anaerobe Vergärung während ihrer Pionierphase in Deutschland vorwiegend auf Ökobetrieben entwickelt wurde, expandierte die Biogasproduktion im Ökolandbau weit weniger stark als in der konventionellen Landwirtschaft. Neben vielerlei anderen Gründen scheint die schwierige wirtschaftliche Situation aufgrund spezieller Produktionsanforderungen die Hauptursache dafür zu sein. | Ökologische wirtschaftende Betriebe bewirtschaften zumeist extensives Grünland und nehmen in diesem Zusammenhang oft an Agrarumweltprogrammen teil. | Management measures to maintain or increase soil organic matter (SOM) are generally associated with additional costs and a decreasing profitability of crop rotations. However, certain SOM-enhancing strategies may have the potential to synergistically optimize also the economic output in the short or long term. | In recent years a growing interest in using draft horses for farm work in Germany and Europe can be observed. However, precise data concerning the performance of modern horse-drawn technology are currently rarely available. In a field study labor time requirements were measured on four farms and one market garden with regular use of draft horses. In addition, farm managers were interviewed in order to learn about their intentions to use draft horses nowadays. On the basis of the gathered data, area performance (ha/h) and total labor time requirements (AKh/ha) of several field procedures were processed. | A goal in ecological agriculture is to avoid and reduce soil compaction. One possibility is the use of a tire inflation system (TIS). Additionally, sowing equipment with broader working width can be used. Both technologies save working time and fuel. Furthermore, yield could increase due to less soil compaction, especially for peas as field trials show. Data from the field trials and from original farms were used to calculate the profitability for the soil protection technologies. The fuel savings are enough to cover the variable and fix costs of the TIS. The pea surplus is an extra revenue. If working time reduction is additionally valued than in total the farms can gain above 19,-€/ha arable land using a TIS. The most farms have not enough traction power... |

| The enhancement and improvement of soil fertility is one of the principal aims of or-ganic agriculture. The practical realization needs a multi-annual, complex approach as well as the economic valuation. Exemplarily, it is shown for the use of green chop with wide C/N ratio in field beans. The cost-benefits-analysis is done with results from field trials and data from real farms. It includes the yield effects on beans and the following grain. Additional impacts like weed suppression and nitrogen fixation are estimated, too. The results show that the gross margin difference for beans is averaged 27 to 55 €/ha (depending on application techniques), but for grains +176 €/ha. | Present-day organic biogas production provokes controversy of its role between the poles of societal demands, principles of organic agriculture and economic constraints. By integrating multiple arguments on organic biogas in a meta-level, several future trends are identified. However, only one option seems reasonable, where anaerobic digestion on a confined scale, mainly based on residual substrate input, serves both energy and food security demands while enhancing the productivity of organic farming systems. |
