Última O DESENVOLVIMENTO OVOCITÁRIO EM Macrobrachium amazonicum(Heller, 1862)(CRUSTACEA: DECAPODA: PALAEMONIDAE), CAMARÃO DULCÍCOLA DA REGIÃO AMAZÔNICA Acta Amazonica CHAVES,Paulo de Tarso da C.; MAGALHÃES,Célio. É descrito o desenvolvimento ovocitário em Macrobrachium amazonicum(Heller, 1862), um camarão dulcícola da família Palaemonidae da Amazônia Central. O seu desenvolvimento é semelhante ao de Macrobrachium acanthurus(Wiegmann, 1836). As fases iniciais do desenvolvimento ocupam a região intema do ovario, enquanto que as fases vitelogênica e madura situam-se perifericamente. São descritas ainda a morfologia dos folículos pós-ovulatórios e das células foliculares. There is considerable confusion in the literature regarding the systematic position and distribution of two pseudothelphusid crabs originally described as Potamocarcinus reflexifrons Ortmann, 1897 and Potamocarcinus reflexifrons fittkaui Bott, 1967, and now included in the genus Fredius Pretzman, 1965, as F. reflexifrons and F. fittkaui. Study of numerous specimens from recent collections, together with a critical analysis of the data published in the literature, shows that both taxa could be easily separated by gonopodal characters. The two species occupy discrete areas of distribution along the main axis of the Amazon River and in the upper Rio Negro Basin, respectively, with an overlap in the Atlantic Guianas. Larval development of the freshwater shrimp Pseudopalaemon amazonensis Ramos-Porto was studied in the laboratory based on the offspring of ovigerous females collected in a small “terra-firme” forest stream near Manaus, Brazil. Ovigerous females with a mean total length of 36.5 ± 1.9 mm carried 13-19 eliptical, yolk-rich eggs measuring 2.55 ± 0.16 x 1.64 ± 0.11 mm. The larval period consisted of 3 benthie stages and the larvae accomplished metamorphosis after 7-8 days without feeding. The newly-hatched larva had sessile eyes and all appendages, except for the uropods; chelipeds were present as uniramous buds, but walking legs were fully developed and functional. Descriptions and illustrations of the 3 larval and first juvenile stages are presented.
