Previously, scattered accounts recorded 13 species of bopyrid isopods infesting decapod crustaceans in Thailand. Recent collections, mainly at Phuket, on the west coast, have turned up 18 more species in Thai waters. Asymmetrione asymmetrica (Shiino) infests Clibanarius spec. Bopyrissa liberorum spec. nov. infests C. merguiensis de Man. Parapagurion calcinicola Shiino infests Paguristes spec. Aporobopyrina lamellata Shiino infests Petrolisthes lamarckii (Leach). Metabopyrus irregularis spec. nov., infests Upogebia spec. Probopyrus buitendijki (Horst) infests Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man). P. annandalei Chopra, recorded for the second time from Thailand, infests Macrobrachium spec. Bopyrella tanytelson spec. nov., infests Alpheus spec. Parabopyrella... |

Bopyrione synalphei, new genus, new species, a parasite of Synalpheus goodei Coutière in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, S. bousfieldi Chace, S. pectiniger Coutière and Synalpheus spp. in Haiti and Synalpheus sp. in Curaçao, is described. A member of the bopyrid subfamily Bopyrinae, whose diagnosis is slightly amended to accommodate it, it is closely allied to the genera Bopyroides Stimpson and Bopyrina Kossmann. Reexamination of the holotype of Bopyroides woodmasoni Chopra, 1923, a parasite of Synalpheus neomeris (de Man) in the Andaman Islands, indicates that it is also assignable to Bopyrione. |

INTRODUCTION Recently, material representing an undescribed species of the genus Argeia Dana in the western Atlantic, the first record of that genus from this ocean, became available to me. The previous records of Argeia are of 4 species in the Pacific, including one whose range extends around the entire northern Pacific, and one from the Indian Ocean. Two of the species, though, represented systematic problems which it was necessary to resolve. At the same time, 4 other genera, Parargeia Hansen, Bopyrosa Nierstrasz & Brender à Brandis, Stegoalpheon Chopra and Argeiopsis Kensley, are clearly related to Argeia, but it has been difficult to assign any of them to currently recognized bopyrid subfamilies. Thus a new subfamily containing these 5 genera is... |
