Interactions in the Agrobacterium-soybean system and capability of some Brazilian soybean cultivars to produce somatic embryos Genet. Mol. Biol.
Mauro,Antonio Orlando Di; Nóbrega,José Carlos Martins de; Mauro,Sonia Marli Z. Di; Collins,Glenn Burton.
Twenty-five Brazilian soybean cultivars were studied for susceptibility to four strains of Agrobacterium tumefaciens (C58, Ach5, Bo542 and A281) and for their ability to produce somatic embryos. Twelve plants of each cultivar were inoculated in a greenhouse at 4-6 weeks of age, using 12 inoculation sites per plant. The number of galls formed on plants were counted 8-10 weeks after inoculation. To study ability to produce somatic embryos, immature cotyledons, 4-6 mm in length, were plated onto N10 medium for induction of somatic embryogenesis, using four Petri dishes with 20 cotyledons for each cultivar. The embryogenic tissues were transferred onto new N10 medium six times at 15-day intervals and the number of somatic embryos per cultivar determined....

Bayesian approach, traditional method, and mixed models for multienvironment trials of soybean PAB
Silva,Alysson Jalles da; Sanches,Adhemar; Andrade,Andréa Carla Bastos; Oliveira,Gustavo Hugo Ferreira de; Mauro,Antonio Orlando Di.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to compare the Bayesian approach and the frequentist methods to estimate means and genetic parameters in soybean multienvironment trials. Fifty-one soybean lines and four controls were evaluated in a randomized complete block design, in six environments, with three replicates, and soybean grain yield was determined. The half-normal prior and uniform distributions were used in combination with parameters obtained from data of 18 genotypes collected in previous and related experiments. The genotypic values of the genotypes of high- and low-grain yield, clustered by the Bayesian approach, differed from the means obtained by the frequentist inference. Soybean assessed through the Bayesian approach showed genetic...

Toothpick test: a methodology for the detection of RR soybean plants1 Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Fabiana Mota da; Unêda-Trevisoli,Sandra Helena; Villela,Otávia Tiago; Perecin,Dilermando; Mauro,Antonio Orlando Di.
Due to the large increase in the area cultivated with genetically modified soybean in Brazil, it has become necessary to determine methods that are fast and efficient for detecting these cultivars. The aim of this work was to test the efficiency of the toothpick method in the detection of RR soybean plants, as well as to distinguish between cultivars, for sensitivity caused by herbicide. Ten transgenic soybean cultivars, resistant to the active ingredient glyphosate, and ten conventional soybean cultivars were used. Toothpicks soaked in glyphosate were applied to all the plants at stage V6 and evaluations were made at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 days after application (DAA). The effects of the glyphosate on the cultivars, and the symptoms of phytotoxicity caused in...

Identification of superior genotypes and soybean traits by multivariate analysis and selection index Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Leite,Wallace de Sousa; Unêda-Trevisoli,Sandra Helena; Silva,Fabiana Mota da; Silva,Alysson Jalles da; Mauro,Antonio Orlando Di.
ABSTRACT The selection of superior genotypes of soybean is a complex process, thus exploratory multivariate techniques can be applied to select genotypes analyzing the agronomic traits altogether, increasing the chance of success of a breeding program. Thus, the objective of this study was to select soybean genotypes carrying the RR gene with good agronomical performance through of multivariate analysis and selection index and identify those traits that influence, also verifying the agreement of multivariate techniques and selection index in the selection process. The experiment was conducted in an increased block experimental being evaluated 227 genotypes of F5 generation, which 85 of those were detected to be glyphosate-resistant by PCR. The following...

Selection indices for agronomic traits in segregating populations of soybean Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Bizari,Eduardo Henrique; Val,Bruno Henrique Pedroso; Pereira,Elise de Matos; Mauro,Antonio Orlando Di; Unêda-Trevisoli,Sandra Helena.
ABSTRACT In genetic improvement of the soybean crop, the selection process is complex and greatly influenced by the environment. One of the alternatives for facilitating this process is the use of selection indices, making it possible to select desirable genotypes for the early generations of breeding programs. The aim of this study was to compare different selection indices in segregating populations of soybean, indicating methods which are superior in various situations, and proposing economic weightings in order to obtain higher gains. Direct and indirect selection criteria were used, together with the classic Smith-Hazel index, an index based on the sum ranks of Mulamba and Mock, a Williams base index, an index based on the desired gains of Pesek and...
