Water Erosion in Oxisols under Coffee Cultivation Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Mendes Júnior,Henrique; Tavares,André Silva; Reis dos Santos Júnior,Walbert; Silva,Marx Leandro Naves; Santos,Breno Régis; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz.
ABSTRACT Water erosion is one of the main environmental impacts of land use. When soil and water losses occur, nutrients essential for the growth and maintenance of plants are removed, with harmful outcomes on the sustainability of agriculture and the environment. In addition, they lead to other deleterious effects, such as sedimentation and eutrophication of water bodies. Estimation of soil losses due to water erosion in sub-basins is essential for prediction of soil degradation, especially in areas of semi-intensive cultivation, such as coffee fields. Thus, the aim of this study was to estimate soil losses in relation to the limit of soil loss tolerance in Oxisols (Latossolos Vermelhos Distróficos) under coffee cultivation. This study was conducted from...

MÉTODOS DE INDEXAÇÃO DE INDICADORES NA AVALIAÇÃO DA QUALIDADE DO SOLO EM RELAÇÃO À EROSÃO HÍDRICA Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo

Adaptation and application of the erosion potential method for tropical soils1 Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Sakuno,Natanael Rodolfo Ribeiro; Guiçardi,Augusto Cesar Ferreira; Spalevic,Velibor; Avanzi,Junior Cesar; Silva,Marx Leandro Naves; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz.
ABSTRACT The water erosion process has a considerable negative effect on tropical soils, causes soil losses from arable land and reduces the capacity to support surrounding ecosystems. Estimating soil losses caused by water erosion is fundamental for evaluating the impacts of various production systems. Therefore, improving soil loss estimates via the adaptation of models for different edaphoclimatic environments is necessary for estimating local geographic and climatic differences. This study aimed to adapt, apply and evaluate the potentialities of the Potential Erosion Method for Latosols of the Hydrographic Subbasin of Caçús Stream, southern Minas Gerais State. Geological, topographic, pedological, climatic and land use and occupation data were...

Estimates of soil losses by the erosion potential method in tropical latosols Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Lense,Guilherme Henrique Expedito; Parreiras,Taya Cristo; Moreira,Rodrigo Santos; Avanzi,Junior Cesar; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz.
ABSTRACT Water erosion is one of the main problems faced in coffee cultivation, as it promotes environmental degradation and crop yield decrease. Erosion estimates support the planning of conservation management practices and allowing determining the rates of soil losses. Thus, the objective of this paper was to estimate the soil loss by water erosion using the Erosion Potential Method in a sub-basin predominantly covered by coffee cultivation and then to compare the results with the Soil Loss Tolerance limits. The study area is the Coroado Stream Sub-basin, located at Alfenas Municipality, south of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The sub-basin presented an Erosion Coefficient of 0.272, indicating a predominance of low-intensity erosion. The total soil loss estimate...

Heavy metals availability and soil fertility after land application of sewage sludge on dystroferric Red Latosol Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Moreira,Rodrigo Santos; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz; Santos,Breno Régis.
Sewage sludge is the solid residue obtained from urban sewage treatment plants. It is possible to use the sludge in a sustainable way as fertilizer and as soil conditioner due to its high levels of organic matter and nutrients. Besides pathogens and volatile organic compounds, the residue may also contain heavy metals which may accumulate and contaminate crops and the food chain. The aim of this study was evaluates the changes in the fertility of dystrophic Red Latosol and in the availability of heavy metals following application of sewage sludge. It was assessed whether organic matter supplied to the soil as large amounts of sewage sludge would decrease availability of heavy metals in the soil due to of insoluble compounds formation. From this, an...

SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL MODELING OF WATER EROSION IN DYSTROPHIC RED LATOSOL (OXISOL) USED FOR FARMING AND CATTLE RAISING ACTIVITIES IN A SUB-BASIN IN THE SOUTH OF MINAS GERAIS Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Olivetti,Diogo; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz; Ayer,Joaquim Ernesto Bernardes; Silva,Marx Leandro Naves; Curi,Nilton.
Water erosion is one of the most important soil degradation processes and it can be intensified by land use and vegetal covering changes. Thus, water erosion modeling studies associated to multi temporal analyses of land use are effective in assessing how changes in land cover affects sediment yield. Therefore, considering the modifications in the land use from 1986 to 2011, the aim of this study ranged to estimate water erosion rates and compare them to the soil loss tolerance (SLT) limit in the Latosols (Oxisols) at Ribeirão Caçús sub-basin, in the South of Minas Gerais State, Southeast Brazil, by means of the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) in association with the geographic information system (GIS), and geostatistical techniques. So, for...

Estimation of sediments produced in a subbasin using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Lense,Guilherme Henrique Expedito; Moreira,Rodrigo Santos; Bócoli,Fernanda Almeida; Avanzi,Junior Cesar; Teodoro,Alexandre Elias de Miranda; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz.
ABSTRACT Among the parameters considered by the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), the soil cover and management factor (C) is the main human influenced factor affecting the estimation of water erosion, and one of the most sensitive to spatiotemporal variations. Consequently, this study aims to compare the efficiency of C factor estimates obtained from the literature for each land-use class (Clit) and by calculation based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (CNDVI). We test the hypothesis that soil loss estimates based on CNDVI approach are more accurate than those based on Clit. Water erosion was estimated based on soil morphological, physical, and chemical properties in addition to climate, relief, management practices, and land use...

Nutritional status and physiological parameters of maize cultivated with sewage sludge Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Moreira,Rodrigo Santos; Lense,Guilherme Henrique Expedito; Fávero,Leonardo Ferreira; Oliveira Junior,Benedito Majela de; Mincato,Ronaldo Luiz.
ABSTRACT The use of sewage sludge as a source of nutrients and organic matter for agricultural soils is a well-established practice. However, few reports highlight the effect of the nutrients and potentially toxic elements provided by organic wastes application on the plant physiological parameters, such as photosynthetic activity and stomatal conductivity. We performed a greenhouse experiment with maize exposed to a dystrophic red Latosol amended with mineral fertilizer and different rates of sewage sludge with the following objectives: i) assess the nutrients and metal uptake translocation and distribution in plants and ii) evaluate the relationship between plant physiological parameters and yield indicators under the study conditions. The application of...
